Two new exhibits, The Art of the Brick, and Became, are being shown at the Bedford Gallery in downtown Walnut Creek through December 20th.
From the exhibit website:
To kick off the Bedford’s 2015-16 exhibition season, themed Art + Play, the gallery will host The Art of the Brick® , an exhibition featuring large-scale sculptures constructed out of iconic LEGO® bricks. New York artist Nathan Sawaya creates awe-inspiring works out of this unlikely material, painstakingly crafting beautiful, playful pieces, and transforming the popular toy into something new.
In addition to Sawaya’s sculptures, the Bedford will exhibit IN PIECES, a collaboration between Sawaya and photographer Dean West, who have created a series of large-scale tableau compositions incorporating Sawaya’s LEGO sculptures into West’s photographs.
In the Alcove Gallery: Became by Jud Bergeron
The Bedford will present an ancillary exhibition of sculpture by San Francisco artist Jud Bergeron titled Became. His playful, colorful toy-like pieces reflect on the experience of becoming a parent.

Last week while I was checking out Farmyard Darlings new shop in downtown Lafayette I met a Lafayette photographer, Michael Clemens, who creates Day in the Life photo essays for families where he captures candid family moments throughout the day, from the moment the kids wake up until they go to sleep. Check out his incredible photographs being featured at Farmyard Darlings new shop as well as on his website, appropriately named Sees the Day, here. I’ve included some of his photographs here as well as an essay he wrote describing what inspired him.

Michael Clemens writes:
I am a local Lafayette dad with two girls. The idea of the “Day in the Life” shoot came from something my wife said. You see, we have this little table in our living room that the girls “live” at.
They eat, do crafts, play games. . you name it. It is always a crusty mess. My wife was complaining about it one day as it always tended to make our house look messier than it actually was.
I said “Well, they’re getting so big now, why don’t we just get rid of it”? With welled up eyes, she looked at me and said “But that’s their table! If we get rid of it, then that chapter of their lives is over. I want to remember what today was like”!

A new exhibit called Botanica: All Things Plant Life opened this week at the Bedford Gallery in downtown Walnut Creek through September 6th.
From the exhibit website:
From 16th Century Flemish painters, to Cézanne and the Post Impressionists, the color and variety found in plant life, as well as the potent symbolism, has made it a popular subject for still-lifes and artist studies. Botanica asks artists to draw on these themes to create artwork that explores how plant life can be represented in a diverse reach of media.
Botanica is a National Juried Exhibition and was juried by Ken Harman of Hashimoto Contemporary and Spoke Art, San Francisco, CA and MacKenzie Stevens of the Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, CA.

#67 song from 1972, Puppy Love:
There has been lots of progress at the new 1500 Mt. Diablo development in downtown Walnut Creek and these may be some of the last days to view the flowerpot from the mural on the wall of La Fogata. If you pass by take a peek between the two walls to see it.
