Lafayette native Kimberli Haris (now living in Benicia) will be demoing her organic Otter Pop style ice pops called Fairyella at Diablo Foods in Lafayette today from 11am to 2pm and the Walnut Creek Whole Foods from 3 – 6pm. As a child she loved walking across Mt. Diablo Blvd. and hanging out at Orchard Nursery while sipping an orange soda. With this I knew I had to try the Fairyella orange ice pop which I picked up at the Walnut Creek Whole Foods. Made with organic orange, pear and sweet potato without any added extra sugar it was quite refreshing and good for me, too! 🙂
In additon to orange they also offer:
From their website:

On Monday a 4.0 earthquake centered in Piedmont hit at 6:49am. It only lasted a couple of seconds and wasn’t that powerful, but my young kids, having never experienced an earthquake of this magnitude, came running over to my office with worried looks on their faces. They had no idea what was going on. Having experienced the 6.9 Loma Prieta earthquake back in 1989 in Santa Cruz, as well as several not quite-as-big ones in Japan in the 90’s, I knew it could have been far worse.
I’ve been thinking about retrofitting the foundation but having talked this over with several engineers, they don’t think it’s necessary for my one story house built in the 60’s. What have you done to prepare for the “big one”? Do you have earthquake insurance or an earthquake kit? Anything else? Or are there more important things to worry about?

The Walnut Creek Design Review Commission is reviewing a plan to turn the shuttered Target Garden Center in Walnut Creek into an F&M Bank (Farmers & Merchants Bank). This section of Target was recently subdivided into a new parcel and the rendering of the new bank submitted to the city looks great. According to MBH Architects, the “building was developed to stand in juxtaposition to its setting”.

Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
The latest retail store to come to Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek is Pandora Jewelry. It looks like it will be located off the side walkway near Macy’s. As you can see in the above photo, the street “will be narrowed and paved to add to the European-style, pedestrian appeal” according to their Facebook page. Look for a November opening for the initial Broadway Plaza phase.
