Mic Gillette Band plays original songs mixed with rock and country tunes, with their own style and finesse, that audiences know and enjoy from the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s . Mic Gillette is the world-renowned trumpet and trombone player who has appeared on countless CDs and record albums, spanning five decades, for some of the biggest names in the business, including a dozen members of the Rock and Ross Hall of Fame. After touring for many years with Tower of Power he decided to settle down with his family. He has since began a program called, “Music in the Schools” to help struggling music programs nationwide to keep their doors open. He continues to teach, record, arrange and play live gigs in Northern California with the MGB.

Pinkberry Closing this Week in Downtown Walnut Creek – Pressed Juicery Coming Soon

The frozen yogurt store closings keep coming in downtown Walnut Creek as Pinkberry will be closing this week. They opened a couple of years ago next to The Cheesecake Factory in Plaza Escuela.

Replacing Pinkberry is a juice bar from Los Angeles called Pressed Juicery. Check out their juice menu here.

The Woodhouse Day Spa Opening this November in Downtown Walnut Creek

Thanks to a reader for sending word (and photo below) that The Woodhouse Day Spa is opening in downtown Walnut Creek this November in part of the building previously occupied by Forma Gym. According to the owner, “there will be a grand entryway and the majority of the spa will located on the 2nd floor.” You can see where the entrance way will be in the photo above towards the right side on Cypress St. No word yet on what is opening on the first floor at left. Filmmakers Jen and Grant dive into the issue of food waste in ‘Just Eat It.’ After catching a glimpse of the billions of dollars of food being tossed each year in North America, they pledge to quit grocery shopping and survive only on throwaway foods.

Library on Main New American Restaurant Opens in Downtown Walnut Creek

***UPDATE*** According to the owner they will be open this Friday, July 31st.

Back in June we learned that owner of the Vietnamese fusion restaurant Élevé would be closing and opening in its place a new American restaurant called Library on Main, serving “hearty playful small plates” and they are now open. The new name and book-inspired design is in reference to the former Walnut Creek library located at this spot. Check out their soft-opening menu here and cocktail menu here. Of course I’m looking forward to trying the Library burger! The menu contains literary-appropriate titles such as: Prologues (snacks), Chapter One (salads), Chapter Two (small plates), Chapter 3 (large plates) and Happily Ever After (desserts). Bonjour Bakery & Cafe Reopens in Park ‘N’ Shop in Concord

Last October we learned that the Japanese/Korean-style Bonjour Bakery & Cafe would be opening in the Park & Shop in Concord and while they eventually opened for a few days they closed gain to better prepare, not reopening until this month. The inside is spacious and looks quite nice and the baked goods are delicious. They are baked in the back and taste very fresh. Check out their website here. Friday Question of the Day – What is your Favorite (New) American Restaurant?

This week we learned that Danville-based Sideboard Neighborhood Kitchen and Coffee Bar would be opening a second location in Lafayette which got me wondering what are your favorite (new) American restaurants. Like American Kitchen and Chow in Lafayette, Corners Tavern in Walnut Creek, The Pig & the Pickle in Concord. What is your favorite?
