Thanks to a reader for sending in this photo of the Lafayette Bookstore Christmas tree. Very appropriate ornaments!

Dear Creekville,
Any chance you could do a post about area Santas? Would love to hear your opinion about which one we should take our daughter to go visit. I’m curious to know myself.
Apart from the Broadway Plaza Santa in Walnut Creek (photo studio) I’m stumped, anyone know where the Santas are around here?
Props to the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce for putting on a fun little event right downtown with live music and free cookies two weekends ago. There was even a magic show at the nearby Storyteller Bookstore.
From the Lafayette Chamber blog:
Today was the first-ever Lafayette Chamber “Home for the Holidays” event. Thanks to the many people who attended the puppet show at The Storyteller Bookstore to the many who stopped for cookies — and to hear Town Hall Theatre youth performers and Dave Crimmen’s singing rock-n-roll, it was a great event!

A reminder from the City of Walnut Creek:
City Hall and many City facilities will be closed from 5 p.m. Friday, December 21 until 8 a.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2013. Public safety and other essential services will remain available. For a complete list of what is open and what is closed, click here.
The CDC only recommends a minimium of 20 seconds hand-washing with either cold or warm water, a full five seconds less than what the Sprouts supermarket recommends!
From the Center for Disease Control website:
What is the right way to wash your hands?
- Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold) and apply soap.
- Rub your hands together to make a lather and scrub them well; be sure to scrub the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.
- Continue rubbing your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.
- Rinse your hands well under running water.
- Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them.
Spotted in front of the men’s goods store Venture, this will make for some hilarious pics for sure! Season’s Greetings Lafayette! 🙂
The old deLaveaga Train Station is located right across from the Flying Gasoline gas station in downtown Orinda.
From a sign in front:
This building is the only remaining station of the California & Nevada Railroad. The C&N, a narrow-gauge line constructed in 1890, ran 23 miles between Emeryville and Orinda hauling farm produce and pasengers. The first train steamed into Orinda in 1891. For several years, trainloads of picnickers made this community a SUnday destination. Investors had big plans for this little railroad; it was originally intended to run from EMeryville via Sonora Pass to Bodie and on to COlorado for conection with the Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad. Financial difficulties, a lack of patronage, and winter floods dashed these plans and the railroad ceased operation in 1904.

Spotted on Mt. Diablo Blvd. heading towards downtown Walnut Creek, I reckon this sign is from the 1970s, does anyone know? A real classic.
