City Center Bishop Ranch, San Ramon
Escapology, featuring various live escape rooms, is coming to City Center Bishop Ranch in San Ramon. Check out the escape room selection here. I wonder how this will compare to Red Door Escape Room at the Veranda in Concord.
Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
A couple of years ago, we learned that the entertainment center and restaurant Pinstripes would be coming to Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek, and their “Coming soon” signage is now up. According to their Walnut Creek web page, look for a fall/winter opening and sign up for a “complimentary wood-fired pizza or flatbread, invite to our grand opening party, plus early access to reservations.” Check out sample menus here.
Last week, the K-pop group Blackpink held an epic, electrifying performance at Oracle Park in San Francisco in front of about 40,000 concert-goers waving pink, heart-shaped light sticks.
For the BLINKs out there, who’s your bias?
1948 Mt. Diablo Blvd, Walnut Creek
Back in December, 2019 we learned that an escape room called Diablo Escapes would be coming to Walnut Creek and they have now opened. They feature five virtual reality challenge games which can be played with up to six players at once. Look for two live escape rooms to open by year end.
I had a chance to demo the VR challenges, which use HTC Vive Pro headsets, and they are truly mesmerizing, combining escape room-like challenges with out of this world scenes not available in live escape rooms, like getting a space station up and running, escaping from a deep sea platform surrounded by shark infested waters, or battling dragons. Words don’t do justice to how incredible the experience is. Check out all five VR challenges here.
The lobby has a steampunk vibe with drinks, snacks and escape room in-a-box games for sale, including my favorite EXIT games which I highly recommend. Note that their rooms have a UV filtration system which is especially nice in these times. If you’re looking for something fun to do with your friends or family, definitely book a session and try out one of their VR escape room games!

1948 Mt. Diablo Blvd, Walnut Creek
A new escape room called Diablo Escape Room is coming to Walnut Creek right in the retail center where Color Me Mine and Bar Method are located. According to a planning commission report, it will be 2,763 square feet. I’ve done a few escape rooms at Red Door in Concord and a few other places and am a big fan when done right. Looking forward to this!
From the report:
The Diablo Escape Room is an interactive venue that consists of team‐based games where participants discover clues, solve puzzles, and accomplish tasks in one or more rooms in order to escape the room in a limited amount of time.
The Veranda, Concord
Last month the giant entertainment center Dave & Buster’s opened in the Veranda shopping center where Toys “R” Us used to be. It’s very similar to Round 1 in the Sunvalley mall, also in Concord. The dining section is much bigger, there are pool tables but no ping pong nor karaoke rooms. I noticed they have a VR section with chairs that move in rhythm to the experiences which looks interesting. Bring your eag plugs because it’s loud, just like Round 1. And good luck with parking! One time I had to park on the street due to the parking situation.
The Veranda, Concord
The restaurant and a video arcade Dave & Buster’s, which earlier this year we learned would be occupying the former Toys “R” Us spot at The Veranda in Concord is opening next month on September 2nd. Check out their Concord web page here for happy hours, weekday specials and local events. I look forward to checking this place out if I can snag a parking spot. 😬
