We are excited to host this event once again in 2014. When we started this event in 2010, some people said it would never last. Well here we are as we happily await the 5th Running of the Oakland Running Festival! The has become a huge success with more than 9,000 runners this year and tremendous community support. The
event has generated more than $8.5 million in economic impact and $750,000 for local charities.
We are excited that you will be joining us for this special anniversary year. We are proud of the fact that our event was voted Best of the West for 2013 by readers of Competitor Magazine and recently featured in Runner’s World
. Quite an accomplishment for our little event!
We are gearing up for another great year. We will once again have our center of race day activities in Snow Park, located just off the shores of majestic Lake Merritt. This location provides us plenty of
open green space to provide our runners, fans and sponsors plenty of elbow room as they celebrate their accomplishments.

For many Americans, the day does not truly begin until they have consumed a cup of their favorite morning beverage, be it coffee or tea. In this talk, Saint Mary’s Professor Dr. Anthony Talo will explore the physiology, biochemistry, and histories of the two plants used to create these popular drinks: Coffea and Camellia sinensis. Dr. Talo will trace their African and Asian origins and explain their critical role in the plantation economies of the 16th-20th centuries and their growth to becoming the global powerhouses they are today. A spring break art camp for kids you wish you could take yourself.

Want to give your kids a fun, hands-on, art-making camp that goes beyond scrapbooking, sketching, and laniard? Give the visual explorers in your family five days of exciting creative experiences using a wide variety of methods and styles. This camp will be led by me and lifetime art educator, Eden Solomon.

About the co-instructor, Eden Solomon

Eden brings a lifetime of art making and instruction, most recently in Oakland’s MOCHA. She’s taught in many venues, including London’s Tate Modern Museum and East Bay public schools. Eden has a gift for combining true art skills with science and play. She is known for challenging experienced students and inspiring a sense of play in new students.

What to expect

Art making will take place in the gallery, studio and patio area. Slideshows will give reference to modern artists and relate the activity of the day to techniques and perspectives the kids can experience first-hand. Arrival between 8:30 and 9 with lessons beginning by 9:15. Snack break at 10:30 and lunch at 12:30. Healthy snack provided. Please pack your child’s lunch.

Lessons include:

drawing

painting

printing

clay

puppet and mask making

weaving

paper sculpture

color theory and mixing.

modern art history

From 1918 until the early 1930s, Georgia O’Keeffe lived for part of the year at Alfred Stieglitz’s 36-acre family property situated just north of Lake George Village. The Lake George years were among the most prolific and transformative of her seven-decade career. A docent will join us to describe this first major exhibition devoted to this period in O’Keeffe’s career which highlights 55 of her works.

For the fifth year, San Francisco’s laugh-lovers will have the renewed opportunity to enjoy a champagne-filled night of comedy at the landmark Orinda Theatre on Friday, March 7th. The Orinda Chamber of Commerce in collaboration with Tommy T’s Comedy Clubs today announced the fifth “Live at the Orinda” event. Past events gained rave reviews for a great night on the town.

Advance discounted and VIP tickets may be reserved until March 6th using credit cards at the Chamber web site – www.OrindaChamber.org – or at First Republic Bank, 224 Brookwood Road.
