The Academy Awards® Benefit features a simulcast of the 86th Annual Motion Picture Awards LIVE ON THE BIG SCREEN. The delicious “Tour de Contra Costa Buffet” showcases a wonderful assortment of gourmet delicacies from many area restaurants, complete with bottomless champagne and wine and a cavalcade of raffle prizes and auction items. Come dressed like a star or your favorite film or character and you might win Best Dressed Man, Woman, or Group.

Local science writer and Lindsay Wildlife Musesem hospital volunteer, Pamela Turner, author of the new book The Dolphins of Shark Bay will answer the question “Why are dolphins smart?” Western Australia is the most important bottlenose dolphin study site in the world, and Pamela will bring us the story of Georgetown University professor Janet Mann and the Shark Bay Dolphin Project. The research has resulted in one stunning discovery after another. This special event is sure to inspire future scientists as well as dolphin-lovers of all ages. Ms. Turner’s book has been selected by National Science Teacher Association as an outstanding science trade book for students. 3D Printing, also known as additive manufacturing, is an emerging technology that creates a three-dimensional solid object, of virtually any shape, from a digital model.Brian Palacios, co-founder of Fabricastl, Inc. will present an overview of the technology and how it is becoming a mainstream movement with widespread commercial applications. Attendees will walk away with a broad-spectrum understanding of this science-fiction-like technology and a greater sense of the positive impacts this new era of printing will bring.

Featuring stunning works from the Ballet’s 20-year history, the celebration includes the Company premiere of Eugene Loring’s masterpiece, Sweetheart Pas de Deux from Billy the Kid, staged by Patrice Whiteside, who is the Artistic Executor of the Eugene Loring Estate.

Golden Bear fans are invited to come to Orinda Theatre Square on Monday, Feb. 3, for the second of four special editions of Cal’s weekly radio show, Inside the Locker Room, where they will have the opportunity to meet a number of coaches and student-athletes. The other remaining two scheduled dates in Orinda are Feb. 17 and March 3. Inside the Locker Room runs from 7-8 p.m. each Monday and can be heard live on KGO Radio 810 AM and online on TuneIn.

The Inside the Locker Room set for the Orinda appearances will be near Barbacoa Mexican Comfort Food. Fans are encouraged to make reservations ahead of time and reference “Inside the Locker Room” when making their reservation. Parking is available at the underground garage beneath the square.
