Evening Discussion on Eugene O’Neill:

Swan’s Fine Books will be hosting an evening discussion group on Thursday, November 7th, on Eugene O’Neill.

Mr. O’Neill, one of America’s most renowned playwrights, was the winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1936 and was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama on four separate occasions.

His plays were among the first to introduce into American drama techniques of realism, and were among the first to include speeches in American vernacular and involve characters on the fringes of society, where they struggle to maintain their hopes and aspirations, but ultimately slide into disillusionment and despair.

Please join us to learn more about Mr. O’Neill;  RSVP if you’d like to join us, as seating will be limited to the first 30 respondents.

Time:  7:30 p.m.

Parking is available either on-street or in the city parking garage across the street; we will validate garage parking for this evening event.

Celebrate fall at the Howe Harvest Festival, Sunday, Oct. 27 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The annual festival includes a variety of harvest and Halloween activities for the entire family, including scarecrow making, pumpkin carving and story telling. A highlight this year is a giant harvest maze in the community gardens. The event is at Howe Homestead Park, 2950 Walnut Boulevard. Please park on Eckley Lane.

Begin your afternoon of fun at the Lesher Center for the Arts (1601 Locust Street) to pick up a map of participating businesses between 2pm-4:30pm. Children 10 & under must be accompanied by an adult.

What: As part of the ten-day Bay Area Science Festival, Lindsay Wildlife Museum presents ‘Hands-On Sun Science’ and more on Sunday, October 27. Explore the fascinating science of Earth’s own star—the Sun, through hands-on activities presented in partnership with Mount Diablo Astronomical Society. Have fun dancing the honey bee ‘waggle’—to music! Learn how bees dance to tell other bees where the nectar and pollen are, and how bees use the sun to give the best travel directions. Watch live honey bees do their own ‘waggle’ dance and take care of the hive in the museum’s Hive Alive! Exhibit (shown here) with its very active, real live bees complete with queen.

Lindsay Wildlife Museum is the first-ever Bay Area Science Festival partner in Contra Costa County.

This ambitious collaborative public education initiative brings together our leading academic, scientific, corporate, and non-profit institutions to showcase the region as an international leader in innovation. Based on similar festivals throughout the world, the 50+ festival events are expected to attract over 50,000 active participants, many of whom traditionally do not have access to quality scientific resources.
