11:00am – 3:00pm | FreeConcert At The Res Lafayette Rotary’s Annual FREE Concert at the Res will be held on Saturday, May 11 from 11am-3pm at the Lafayette Reservoir. You can pack a picnic and don’t forget your beach chairs and blankets. The stage is adjacent to a shady picnic area, public restrooms and the children’s playground. Once you have parked walk East (to your left) towards the reservoir trail. The Stage is about 150 feet from the parking lot. A shuttle van will be used to pick up guests in the parking lot and drop them off at the trail entrance. A golf cart will be available to take those guests that need help up the hill to the new stage.
Musicians and artists for this year’s concert include Big Band of Rossmoor, Stanley Symphonic Band, Acalanes Jazz Ensemble, Bentley Jass Ensemble, Lamorinda Theatre Academy, Stevie Coyle Strings and special guests Oakland Westlake Midde School and Town Hall Troupe. There will be food & raffle tickets available to support Lafayette Schools & Rotary Projects.

The performance will begin with the Pas de Deux from Stars and Stripes by George Balanchine, set to the rousing, patriotic music of John Philip Sousa.
The program continues with the duet from They’ve Lost Their Footing by KT Nelson, Co-Artistic Director of ODC San Francisco. Set to the music of Hoven Droven, this electric dance displays the power and control of Nelson’s contemporary style.

Magical History Downtown Walking Tour:

9:00am – 10:30am | FreeThe Walnut Creek Historical Society will lead a walking tour of downtown Walnut Creek as part of the Second Saturday Spotlight series in May. Learn about the days when Walnut Creek was known as “the Corners,” and find out which buildings still standing today have their roots deep in the past. The 90-minute program begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 11. For details and registration, visit the Second Saturday Spotlight webpage.
The program begins promptly at 9 a.m. promptly at Liberty Bell Plaza, corner of Broadway and Mount Diablo Boulevard, and will conclude by 10:30 a.m. at City Hall, 1666. N. Main Street. Wear comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen and a hat. Bring water.
Total distance is about 3/4 of a mile, with stops along the way.
BONUS! The Historical Society will loan each participant a Downtown History Tour guidebook. The guidebook is available for purchase that day for $5 (cash only, exact change, please).

The Tour will be held on Saturday, May 18th from 10am to 3pm and will feature six beautiful kitchens in Lafayette homes ranging in style from farmhouse rustic to Mediterranean. Attendees will receive a Kitchen Tour program detailing all the special design elements of the kitchens as well as information on the architects, designers and contractors who created these inspired kitchens.
Proceeds from this year’s Tour benefit the work of five local non-profit organizations including New Day for Children, CoachArt, Contra Costa Interfaith Housing, the Lafayette Library and Learning Center, and We Care. These organizations were selected by the Lafayette Juniors for the support they provide to children and families in need in Contra Costa and neighboring East Bay counties.
Tickets are $40 ($30 tax deductible), with a box lunch available for $12. Tickets can be purchased online at www.lafayettejuniors.org or from Douglah Designs (3586 Mt. Diablo Blvd) and Premier Kitchens (3373 Mt. Diablo Blvd) in Lafayette.

Closed to the public, Save Mount Diablo’s 208-acre property includes the headwaters of Galindo Creek with rolling grasslands, oaks, buckeyes, and a rare desert olive grove. Visit a secret spring and keep your eyes out for bobcats and coyotes looking for breakfast, plus burrowing owls, quail, and many other feathered friends. This is a two hour, four mile hike with one moderately strenuous hill. The length and course may be altered based on weather. Mangini Ranch is home to our Heritage Tree program .
