This year, don’t miss Warren Miller’s Line of Descent, presented by Volkswagen. Travel the globe, by land, air, and sea, exploring the ties that bind us. Visit skiing icons who have made the mountains their home and raised the next generation of winter adventurers.

Running Time: approx. 2 hours
Go from New Zealand, home to some of the Southern Hemisphere’s deepest lines, to the French Alps, where native son Jean Claude Killy’s legacy fills Val-D’Isere hearts with pride. In Norway, a Canadian ski patroller enjoys the company of his Norwegian brethren, and in British Columbia, the Provo brothers discover the powsurfing stashes of Mustang Powder Lodge. Cruise through the Northern Rockies with Kalen Thorien by motorcycle and rip the rugged terrain of Jackson Hole with legends like Tommy Moe and Jess McMillan.

For 68 years, ski families have cheered on the official kickoff to winter with the ski film company that started it all and this year is no different. As the family grows, the traditions grow richer in Volkswagen presents Warren Miller’s Line of Descent. Deeper and fresher than ever.

Wharf Fest, a free Fisherman’s Wharf festival, returns to San Francisco’s iconic neighborhood for the 5th year. The Fisherman’s Wharf Community Benefit District is throwing the ultimate festival to celebrate San Francisco’s historic waterfront district and invite Bay Area locals to visit the district after the tourist season has ended and before San Francisco’s fabulous fall climate fades away. This year’s festival will include a chowder cook-off competition, exhibitors, and fun family activities and entertainment.

Bread & Roses Presents is a nonprofit arts organization bringing hope and healing through live music and the performing arts in over 600 free, high quality annual shows to San Francisco Bay audiences who are isolated in a variety of institutional settings.

The Chamber of Commerce and the City of Lafayette are co-sponsors of the Lafayette Res Run for Education which is traditionally held on a Sunday in October. Beneficiaries of the event are the local schools and the services and programs of the Chamber. The Run is the city’s most popular “family affair”, involving kids, parents, grandparents, and hundreds of serious runners from throughout the Bay Area. Participants compete in a 10k or 5k Certified Runs and a 2 mile run/walk for fun through downtown Lafayette, around the reservoir (10k only) and back. Sprinters, walkers, the “stroller brigade” and many of Lafayette’s top four legged residents share the streets on that festive Sunday morning.

5k Certified Race – flat, “chip” timed course, runners only (NO Dogs or Baby Strollers).

10k Certified Race – hilly, “chip” timed course around the reservoir, Dogs on Leash & Baby Strollers OK.

2 Miles Run/Walk for Fun – No Timing – Fun Run ONLY, Dogs on Leash & Baby Strollers OK

“Although I have been creating and exhibiting work for more than ten years, my recent endeavor with Art Moves Project has led me into unfamiliar and exciting territory” said Marcia Barrow Taylor. “Edifice: Uncovered is my first site-specific installation and has afforded me an opportunity to add a performance aspect to my art.”

Learn how to capture the rain that falls on your roof for use in irrigating your landscape, seedling starts, mushroom cultivation, and emergency water storage.
In this workshop, you’ll learn about many types of rain collection, from 55 gallon barrels to 5,000 gallon storage tanks. In the hands-on section, students will participate in the construction of a home rain barrel system.
