The Spirit of the Old West Exhibition:
Blackhawk Museum
3700 Blackhawk Plaza Circle
beginning Saturday, February 21st, 2015The Spirit of the Old West exhibition tells the story of the western frontier from the perspective of both the Native Americans and the settlers before, during and after the expansion west. The exhibition features authentic artifacts from the period, a large diorama depicting key historic moments, scenes of wildlife from the frontier and other elements that bring the past to life.
This exhibition was collected and curated by Jerry Fick who was born in 1947 in Redding, Pennsylvania. The son of farmers, Jerry grew up poor, but developed an early fascination with Indians and began collecting Indian artifacts after finding a spear point near the well on his family’s homestead. His parents and his grandmother (a full blooded Lenni Lenape or Delaware Indian) fostered his interests in Indians and helped him find and acquire items of interest.

10:30am – 12:00pmBrett Lunger studied political science at Princeton University before enlisting in the Marine Corps in 1967. He served as a lieutenant in a select US Marine regiment for more than a year in Vietnam, and on his return he taught at the Marine Officers Basic School in Quantico, Virginia.
Despite coming from a very privileged background, one of the heirs of the Du Pont family fortune, he ventured into the world of big-time motor racing with a limited budget and no family support.
He began racing in 1965 with a Corvette while at Princeton, later graduating to Can-Am. Returning to the track in 1971 after leaving the Marine Corps, he took part in the L&M Formula 5000 Series in US racing alongside David Hobbs, and later joining Dan Gurney’s AAR team.

Pizza Guys is now open in Danville on Hartz Ave. where Papa John’s used to be. Or you can wait for Blue Line Pizza to open a few blocks away…
550 Hartz Ave, Danville
Blue Line Pizza, owned by the same owners as San Francisco-based Little Star Pizza, is coming to Danville on Hartz Ave. where Rakestraw Books and the custom cabinetry designer Marley & Company used to be. Check out their menu here. I wonder how this compares to Patxi’s Pizza who also offer cornmeal deep dish pizzas?
From their website:
Since opening in 2004, Little Star Pizza has been widely recognized as the best pizza in San Francisco by locals, visitors and critics alike. Renowned for our cornmeal crust deep dish pizzas, Little Star has received numerous awards and accolades – our favorite being named in 7×7 Magazine’s “The Big Eat SF: 100 Things to Try Before You Die.” Our pizza has been an exclusive gem of the City until now.
We are expanding throughout the Bay Area under a new name that gives a subtle nod to Chicago, the birthplace of deep dish pizza. Named after The Blue Line, a train that runs between O’Hare Airport and downtown Chicago, Blue Line Pizza features the same award-winning Chicago cornmeal crust deep dish and New York style thin crust pizzas, organic salads, housemade appetizers, and a quality selection of beers, wines, and spirits. Blue Line Pizza also offers a variety of ordering and convenient services including online ordering, in-store pre-ordering (where your pizzas come out of the oven when your table is ready for seating) and easy pick-up of half or full baked pizzas.
