It’s been six months since we learned that the alcoholic beverage store BevMo! would be coming to downtown Lafayette where Design & Interiors used to be and they have now opened in a smaller than usual spot. How does this compare to the Orinda location other than size?

6:30pm | $10For the last night in the series, we’ll feature four short films. “Trailhead” – A documentary film project from OaklandTrails.org about the magnificent trail system that covers most of the East Bay. (20 minutes). “Martin’s Boat” – Martin believed the best way for people to understand the importance of preserving the Grand Canyon was to have them experience this secret world from the river – but not in just any boat. (24 minutes). “Comes With Baggage” – A light-hearted history of bicycle travel in the Americas that makes you want to sell your possessions, quit your job and escape on a bike. (18 minutes). And “Soil Carbon Cowboys” – These ranchers have learned how to regenerate their soils while making their animals healthier and their operations more profitable. (13 minutes). A $10 donation is requested, $5 for students, and cookies, snacks, coffee and beverages will be served.

The La Boulange Cafes closed in Walnut Creek and Lafayette last September and we learned a while back that Lemonade will be opening this fall in the Walnut Creek location. We now know that Homegrown Sustainable Sandwiches will be taking over the Lafayette location on Mt. Diablo Blvd. Check out their Seattle menu here.
From their website:
Our idea is that if we thoughtfully curate every little thing about the sandwich – where the grains for the bread come from, how the animals behind our meats and cheeses are raised, what chemicals we’re keeping off our fruits and vegetables – each sandwich will be a little bit healthier for the planet and for the people who enjoy eating them. And when you multiply that effect by all the sustainable sandwiches we sell every day, you can really start to envision the positive change we can have on the food system, even by rallying behind something as simple as a sandwich.

The popular Walnut Creek-based coffee shop Coffee Shop that we learned would be coming to the heart of downtown Lafayette in October to replace The Art Room is opening tomorrow, Tuesday, July 19th. They have been open for several hours the past few days getting ready for the grand opening and people have been emailing about the impending opening.
I was able to drop by over the weekend to get photos and it looks amazing with a vaulted ceiling and retro lighting accenting wooden beams throughout. There is plenty of outdoor seating as you can see in the above photo. Featuring roasters such as Cafe Grumpy (Brooklyn), Stumptown (Portland) and Sightglass (San Francisco), along with craft beers, wine and seasonal organic dishes including salads, sandwiches, flatbreads and breakfast items, this place is going to be huge in Lafayette. According to a sign they plan on having open mic nights with comedians, songwriters, poets on Tuesday evenings, game nights for board games on Wednesdays, and art nights featuring local artists on Thursday evenings. Coffee Shop will be open Sundays through Thursdays 6am – 9pm and Fridays and Saturdays 6am – 9:30pm.
Plenty more photos of the inside after the jump…
