The wait is finally over as long-anticipated Roam Artisan Burgers opened its newest location in downtown Lafayette in La Fiesta Square yesterday. Knowing it would be packed I couldn’t resist and dropped by with my family last night to try their renown Heritage burger with “Applewood smoked bacon, Fontina, butter lettuce, tomato, caramelized onions and herb mayo” and salted caramel milkshake and was thrilled to have found a delicious, cool and reasonably priced burger joint in the Lamorinda area. Not as fatty as other burgers I’ve had nearby, the toppings are some of the tastiest I’ve had, as was the bun which was outstanding as well. The shake was so addictingly good I would feel guilty for drinking but they offer a child size which saved me. Yum! They also offer a nice selection of craft brews and wine. Check out their menu here.
The inside design looks incredible with plenty of wood and warm lighting thanks to exposed bulb pendants. Note that you first place your order at the cashier, get a number and then sit down at a table, the bar or a really long communal table and your food and drinks will be brought directly to you. Roam Artisan Burgers is open everyday from 11:30 am – 10 pm.
Check out more photos after the jump…
The recently opened Caroline’s Salon in La Fiesta Square in downtown Lafayette is sporting new signage, check it out.

Back in May I noted that Roam Artisan Burgers was planning to open in October in La Fiesta Square in downtown Lafayette and according to Lamorinda Weekly they now plan on opening by Christmas. Check out their menu here.

4:30pm – 7:30pm | FreeJoin us in the amphitheater for some awesome astronomy fun!
As evidenced by the title of this event, we originally intended to view the Comet ISON. As of this moment, the status of ISON cannot be confirmed, however most scientists agree that up to 90% of ISON was destroyed when it grazed the sun on Thanksgiving Day. So, viewing ISON may not be in the cards for us any longer, however, we still have a fun night of amazing stargazing in store.
This event will include these not-to-be-missed activities, designed for all ages:
*4:30-7:30 Telescope viewing. In our outdoor amphitheater, Mount Diablo Astronomical Society will be on hand with telescopes to view Venus, Jupiter, the Moon and more!
*Saint Mary’s professor and astronomer Dr. Ron Olowin will also be in the amphitheater to discuss what the heck happened to this comet that was once deemed the “comet of the century.”
*A computer simulation of ISON’s demise.
*Fun comet craft for the kids.
*Free tasty treats for the first 100 attendees.
Free!
No reservations necessary.

Back in August I noted that Cold Stone Creamery was closing to make room for Smitten Ice Cream and Smitten is definitely opening in this location. Right now the inside is completely bare but the Smitten plans are visible in front.
From the La Fiesta Square website:
We are excited to announce that Smitten Ice Cream is coming to La Fiesta Square.
Smitten Ice Cream uses the freshest and purest ingredients to freeze each batch of ice cream to-order, from scratch, in 60 seconds with the help of patented, liquid nitrogen-enabled Brrr™ machines.
It’s new, old-fashioned ice cream — and we know you’re going to love it.
Look for more details regarding opening date soon. In the meantime, we invite you to watch this video, which tells how Smitten Founder Robyn Sue Fisher turned her passion for ice cream into this unique ice cream business.
Teen Volunteer Opportunity- Fridays in the Field:
Acalanes Ridge (The top of Peaceful Ln. in Lafayette)
Friday, December 13, 2013
3:30pm – 5:30pm | FreeThe Muir Heritage Land Trust’s Fridays in the Field youth volunteer program will meet on December 13th part in a native grass restoration project at Acalanes Ridge.
We will be planting native grasses on a section of the ridge, which we will track and monitor throughout the year.
Our East Bay hills are covered with grasses and plants that are not native to this area. This project will be a great way to see if native grasses can overcome the non-natives and thrive in the environment they were meant to be in.
Join us for this fun opportunity!
Tools provided, but please advise teens to dress warmly and wear closed toed shoes they don’t mind getting dirty.

The Lafayette Community Park, located at 480 St. Marys Rd. in Lafayette is home to one of the great tree swings in all of Lamorinda. The tree you see above is really quite massive, and if you look really closely at the photo above you may be able to spot a kid enjoying a swing ride. Take a look at a close-up below for a better look. Suspended high up in the air on a solid branch, the simple wooden slat for sitting allows one to hang on while swinging like Tarzan.
When you enter the park there are a couple of small playgrounds which are quite interesting as well. To get to the swing you’ll need to take a walk around the baseball field at left up a hundred meters or so until you reach the swing. Who has been to this swing before? Is this the coolest tree swing or what?!
