This fire pit was featured with one of the kitchens in the Lafayette Juniors Kitchen Tour last month. Look closely and you can see actual horseshoes inside the fire pit which is rather appropriate considering the house is located right next to a huge horse stable in Burton Valley, Lafayette.
Props to the Lafayette Juniors who ended up raising over $50,000 for various non-profit organizations including $25,000 for New Day for Children, which, “rescues and provides for the needs of American girls ages 10 to 18 suffering from the desperation of human trafficking”.
If you would like to see your kitchen or remodel featured email me a photo at btcreek(at)beyondthecreek(dot)com with location and details and I’ll be in touch.
Rossi’s Tennis & Running shop recently moved from their Oak Hill location to Mt. Diablo Blvd. right behind Boswell’s Party Supplies in the parking lot where the Caffino stand is located in downtown Lafayette. Apparently Rossi’s is known for their tennis stringing operation.
A Day in the Life of Lafayette:
Lafayette
Friday, June 21st, 2013
12:01am – 11:59pm | FreeA Day in the Life of Lafayette aims to create a crowdsourced snapshot of our community on that particular day. All are invited to participate, from 5 years old to 105 years old! This is your opportunity to think outside the lens.
Here’s how it works:
On Friday, June 21 – the Summer Solstice, the longest day of year –take pictures in Lafayette anytime between 12:01 am and 11:59 pm. Choose a photo, including the time and location it was taken, and submit it to the City of Lafayette Offices between July 12thand July 30th (by 5 pm). The Lafayette Public Art Committee will review the entries and select the winning photographs to be displayed at the Library Gallery at the Community Hall and on the City’s website from September through November. A reception will be held at the gallery in late September to recognize the finalists.
In order to make room for extra parking for the new restaurant The Cooperage in downtown Lafayette, the building where Twigs Floral & Art called home for over 25 years will be demolished soon. Twigs will still be open for phone and online orders so check out their website for more info here.
Last month I noted that the home decor shop Queen Bee would be closing in Lafayette and according to Diablo Style a new boutique called J. Colleen will be offering “upscale vintage clothing, original artwork” and jewelry beginning September 1st at this location.
Spotted at Lafayette Auto Body on Mt. Diablo Blvd, this is an old Richfield gas pump with a custom paint job. They even have a Blue Chip Stamp sign on the side. Does anyone remember those?
The anticipation is great for The Cooperage American Grill opening at the old Petar’s location in downtown Lafayette and according to Diablo Dish it is set to open on November 6th. Word on the street is that the parking lot is going to be expanded and converted into valet parking spots although I wonder whether the entire lot will be valet or just a percentage.
From the Cooperage website:
The Cooperage American Grille will feature American favorites like slow roasted chicken prepared in a glass-encased rotisserie oven, New York steak, beef tenderloin, and signature burger (made with our own meat grinder at the grill). The Cooperage will also offer healthier options, including a selection of salad entreés made with local and organically grown ingredients.
The Cooperage will be comfortable for families dining with children, featuring sports memorabilia from local teams and athletes, kids menu, and younger diners can watch their food being prepared in the rotisserie oven and open kitchen.
The Cooperage will have a large bar area for adults with flat screen TV’s, 12 beers on tap, eight wine selections on tap, and vintage cocktail list

Props as always to Venture men’s goods in Lafayette for their killer window displays!
Back in February I noted that a new salon was opening where Pure Beauty used to be on Mt. Diablo Blvd. in downtown Lafayette and now Lafayette Beauty Store has opened. There is quite a large cosmetics section in front as can be seen in the photo below.
Lafayette Beauty Store is located at 3606 Mount Diablo Blvd. right near Pizza Antica in Lafayette.
