Spotted at the Pleasant Hill shopping center, I wonder if this is a real U.S. Army sidecar. Must be fun to ride in!

A couple of weeks ago L & L Hawaiian BBQ closed in the Pleasant Hill shopping center at 60 Crescent Dr. You’ll need to travel to Pleasanton or Martinez for the closest locations of L & L.
Corner Bakery Cafe is opening on June 3rd in the former Yan Can Asian Bistro location in the downtown Pleasant Hill shopping center. Check out their menu here. Anyone have favorite dishes to recommend?
From their website:
We started as a little bread bakery, supplying freshly baked bread to happy customers around town. People loved our breads so much, we couldn’t help but evolve into a cafe where we could serve equally remarkable sandwiches. This, of course, led to delightful sweets, savory panini, fresh salads, and hearty bowls of soups and pasta.

Corner Bakery Cafe is located at 35 Crescent Drive in Pleasant Hill.
The Pleasant Hill Dome movie theater is not the only business going away in Pleasant Hill as The Loaded Hog Saloon, located right next to the Dome, will also be closing its doors and there will be a big celebration today so drop by and enjoy it while you can. Thanks to a reader for sending word about this with a photo.
This photo of the Pleasant Hill Dome Theater was taken the last Sunday, its very last day in existence. 2001 Space Odyssey was aptly playing. Now it is no more. Eventually to be replaced by a Dick’s Sporting Goods store according to a Crazy in Suburbia post. It’s been around for 46 years, and watching a movie there is one of the few memories I have of this area back in the early nineties while visiting a friend.
There is however an appeal happening against the SyWest Development plans for the Shopping Center. From Crazy in Suburbia’s post:
The appeal basically says that SyWest Development’s proposal to replace the Dome Theater with a Dick’s Sporting Goods is inconsistent with the city’s own laws, policies and goals on historical and cultural preservation, promoting the arts and quality of life in Pleasant Hill, providing services for seniors, and creating an economically vibrant community.
So today’s question of the day is, should the Pleasant Hill Dome should be saved?
It’s official, Zachary’s Chicago Pizza has opened in Pleasant Hill right across the street from the Cinemark movie theater on Crescent Drive. They offer both Chicago style stuffed pizza as well as thin pizza. Check out their menu here. In addition to pizza they also have salads. Lunch slices will be offered beginning March 1st. Remember that a stuffed pizza can take 40 minutes to make so you should order while you’re waiting. They give you a pager that will page you twice. Once so you can place your order and get the estimated wait time, and a second time when you can sit down and order drinks and salads until the pizza comes.
The inside is very cool looking:

Zachary’s Pizza, the eclectic employee-owned Chicago-style pizzeria that originated in Berkeley is opening a new location in Pleasant Hill this month according to the Pleasant Hill Outlook newsletter. You can check out their menu here. They are known for their deep dish pizzas but also offer thin crust styles as well. Any favorite toppings or dishes to get? Deep or thin?

All ingredients are the finest and freshest available. Our approach is a commitment to high quality food, and a pleasurable dining experience.
The Pleasant Hill location will be at 140 Crescent Drive right across from the Cinemark movie theater.
I used to go to the Berkeley location but being from New York I have to admit I like thin crust more. I’ll definitely go to the new location to try it out again.
