8:00amSan Francisco’s Alaska Airlines Bay to Breakers is an annual footrace operated by Wasserman Events and has run continuously for over 100 years as a staple to the City by the Bay. With a starting point near the San Francisco Bay, a few blocks from The Embarcadero, the 12K race runs west through the city and finishes at the Great Highway where breakers crash onto the Pacific Coast’s Ocean Beach. A quintessential San Francisco experience since 1912, the race is interwoven into the fabric of the city and is a true reflection and celebration of life between the breakers and the Bay.

3:00 – 8:00pm | Free (RSVP)Heron Arts is excited to announce its upcoming group exhibition comprised of artists who work in the Treat Ave studios in San Francisco’s Mission district. The history of the Heinzer building laid the groundwork for its becoming a vessel of creativity and expression, its primary use today. The artists who fill the building vary in medium – from printmaking to painting, software development to textiles, and even a music label. This show will feature all new works from current studio mates. The opening exhibition will have live performances from local bands Cool Ghouls, The She’s, Joseph Childress Band, Diko and Grace Sings Sludge. In addition, there will be live printing by studio mate and master printer Paul Mullowney, and a photobooth by Glass Coat Photo Booth. The opening reception is on Saturday, April 15th from 3-8pm and is free and open to the public. The exhibition will be open until April 28th, by appointment only.

Hershman Leeson examines the ensuing court case with interviews, dramatic re-enactments, animation, and news footage, following its twists and turns while exploring its chilling potential effects on free speech and science in post-9/11 America. In conjunction with Lynn Hershman Leeson: Civic Radar, YBCA presents all four feature films by this remarkable and visionary artist. These movies expand on many of the themes of her visual art and interactive projects, playfully upending cinematic traditions with artistic approaches rooted in cutting-edge technology and feminist activism and theory. Oscar-winning actress Tilda Swinton is prominent among Hershman Leeson’s collaborators on these films, which also feature many other Bay Area-based artists.

Join community historians, archivists, genealogists, archaeologists, researchers, educators, reenactors and other history enthusiasts for a free Community Open House at this historic site. Past history weekends at the Old Mint have brought together dozens of organizations to celebrate and tell the City’s unique history, and have attracted several thousand participants.
This event is free, open to the public, and wheelchair accessible.

Murder at the de Young Scavenger Hunt:

Someone, or something, has been bumping off museum staffers involved in acquiring an ancient Aztec relic. Is it the dreaded Curse of Itlkilyu? Or is a serial killer on the loose? Your team of sleuths will have to crack a hieroglyphic code and uncover the museum’s secrets to stop the killings. For murder hunts, we strongly recommend hunting with a team of three or more. If you sign up with fewer than three people, we suggest pairing up with others at the start of the hunt to form a larger team.
