Thanks to a reader for sending word that the independent bookstore Flashlight Books, which opened in downtown Walnut Creek in 2018, is closing March 24th. According to a Facebook post from the store, the decision to close was made due to a combination of high rent prices and low sales numbers. Since opening in 2018, Flashlight Books had been a popular destination for book lovers in the area. However, the store’s closure will now leave a gap in the community for those looking for a more independent and unique bookstore experience.
I wonder what impact Barnes & Noble, which opened in September a short hop away in Plaza Escuela, had.
