Spotted this sweet looking MGB convertible in downtown Walnut Creek. Has to be from the 60’s, right?

Last year, we saw the progress on the Three by Lenox Homes condo complex in downtown Walnut Creek and they are now available for purchase, “priced from the $1,288,000 – $2,400,000’s”. Check out the floor plans and more here. I checked out the inside and the condos look sweet, with a cool rooftop deck that can be reserved. Penthouse owners have their own private rooftop deck section as well. I really like this location where you can walk to BART in 5-10 minutes, with Lesher Center, restaurants and shopping down the other block as well.

In March we learned that Diablo Grills would be coming to downtown Walnut Creek where Jos. A. Bank used to be, and they have now opened. Check out their pizza ovens here. They also carry BBQ grills, smokers and more.

Thanks to a reader for sending word that California Closets, which closed in 2019 in downtown Walnut Creek where Warby Parker is currently located, is coming back to downtown Walnut Creek where Main Street Rags used to be. Check out their online design gallery here. Note that Main Street Rags relocated a few blocks away, to Civic Dr, next to Lettuce.
Encina Grande, Walnut Creek
Last October we learned that San Francisco-based Starbird Chicken would be coming to Encina Grande in Walnut Creek and they have now opened. Check out their menu here. I had the opportunity to try some dishes and particularly enjoyed the crispy chicken tenders which were not greasy at all. The seasoning and Star sauce was so good I’m definitely going to go back soon.
More photos of food and inside after the jump…

Great news as Bierhaus, the German-inspired restaurant and beer hall that closed late last year in downtown Walnut Creek, has reopened! Their menu is a bit more limited for now, but I look forward to eating a giant pretzel with mustard, while sipping a draft brew there soon.

Thanks to a reader for sending word that Berkeley-based Cupcakin’ Bake Shop is coming to downtown Walnut Creek where Kara’s Cupcakes used to be and they are expected to open as early as July 1st for a soft opening. Check out their menu here. They will also sell cakes and there will be live music at the grand opening on July 3rd. I’m definitely going to try a chocolate salted caramel cupcake the first chance I get!
From their website:
Cupcakin’ Bake Shop is the realized vision of owner Lila Owens. She started a home-based cupcake catering business in 2007. But the ultimate goal was to open a cute little bake shop where she could showcase her passion for baking to a larger audience. Lila wanted a fun culture, adorable décor and artisan baked goods made from high quality, sustainable ingredients.

It’s been a few years since Apple relocated to Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek and now, the former Apple spot, located between Tiffany & Co. and Capital One, will eventually be home to LensCrafters. Considering the prime location, I wonder if this is going to be a higher end boutique like the flagship stores that opened in New York?
