2800 Larkey Ln, Walnut Creek
Over the weekend I dropped by Larkey Market in Walnut Creek to check out what was going on since they got a new owner. There had been some questions about their homemade sandwiches disappearing and I found out that a new deli station is in the works and once it’s ready they’ll be back to offering handmade sandwiches as well as an expanded menu including a special family chicken salad recipe, breakfast items and more specialty deli items. Online ordering will be available as well as a new Larkey Market coffee, including a proprietary cold brew. In addition to food and drink updates they want to update the aesthetics so it will feel more like a neighborhood market and deli with more tables and less like a convenience store. Check for updates on their Instagram page here.

Lyric, Walnut Creek
In April we learned that Blaze Pizza would be coming to The Lyric in downtown Walnut Creek but all the coming soon signs have been removed and one reader emailed that they were, “balled up in a trash can in the corner.” However, the website still has a location listed. Anyone know what’s going on? The listed address is, “1507 Locust St.” so I wonder if they’re actually opening next door in the soon-to-be-built new building? Check out their menu here.
Plaza Escuela, Walnut Creek
The Japanese clothing store Uniqlo, which opened a little over five years ago at Plaza Escuela in downtown Walnut Creek, is closing on December 29th. They are still open in Concord, Pleasanton and Emeryville. Thanks to everyone who emailed about this.

A new escape room called Diablo Escape Room is coming to Walnut Creek right in the retail center where Color Me Mine and Bar Method are located. According to a planning commission report, it will be 2,763 square feet. I’ve done a few escape rooms at Red Door in Concord and a few other places and am a big fan when done right. Looking forward to this!
From the report:
The Diablo Escape Room is an interactive venue that consists of team‐based games where participants discover clues, solve puzzles, and accomplish tasks in one or more rooms in order to escape the room in a limited amount of time.
Sprouts Shopping Center, Walnut Creek
Thanks to everyone who emailed about Freebirds World Burrito closing at Sprouts shopping center in Walnut Creek. They opened almost seven years ago and parking was as tough then as it was when I dropped by over the weekend!
