Saw this giant artwork being put up at Lesher Center in downtown Walnut Creek over the weekend. Pretty cool how it’s done by hand rather than a preprinted overlay.

Park Plaza Shops, Lafayette
The Bay Area-owned A Runner’s Mind running store has closed at the Park Plaza Shops in Lafayette. Yesterday we learned that Smitten Ice Cream closed in nearby La Fiesta Square which is unfortunate but it’s good to know that Joe & the Juice will eventually be opening next door.

2:00 – 5:00pm | $10An afternoon of great music, dancing, BBQ, and FUN. Three terrific groups starting with Quake City Jug Band, a veteran jug band with snare drum, tap dancing, accordion, vocal harmonies, and feather boas, followed by The Stevens Sisters, an all female barbershop quartet made of 2 sets of sisters, and finishing with Dirty Cello, blues, bluegrass, and rock cello like you’ve never heard.
Rotary Club of Lafayette will provide a delicious BBQ, snacks, beer and wine for purchase.
La Fiesta Square, Lafayette
After four years serving ice cream made with liquid nitrogen, Smitten Ice Cream closed over the weekend at La Fiesta Square in Lafayette. It’s not all bad news though; According to a letter posted inside all Lafayette, Moraga, Walnut Creek and Concord residents will get 25% off purchases from their Rockridge location through the end of the year. Check out their flavors here.
Why did they leave out Orinda and Pleasant Hill residents? Orinda is part of Lamorinda but maybe they figured it’s too close to Rockridge to offer a discount. Why did they skip Pleasant Hill? Maybe that’s an oversight…
Thanks to everyone who emailed about the closing.
Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
The furniture store Lovesac, featuring bean bag chairs and a modular sectional couch system, opened a new showroom at Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek. It’s hard to tell by looking at the photo below but the bean bag chair at right is gigantic. And that’s not even the largest size! If I had a stack burning a hole in my pocket I would definitely get this. Check out their online shop here.
