Thanks to a reader for sending word that the olive oil shop and wine bar We Olive is closing in downtown Walnut Creek after eight years in business. Over the weekend everything in the store was 20% off.
From an email:
We have had an ongoing love story with olives and olive oil for over a decade now. It is what led us to open our little store in downtown Walnut Creek, and what propelled Christine to hone her skills and become part of a sensory panel involved with certifying olive oils. It ultimately, led us to plant our own olive grove. So, it is with some sadness, but with a firm eye toward the future, that we announce our retirement, and the closing of the We Olive Walnut Creek location. We have enjoyed sharing our passion for olive oil with our many loyal guests over the years and are thankful for the new and enduring friendships made during this time.
Our retirement sale starts today!
We are going to celebrate by putting everything in the store on sale! Come in and enjoy deep discounts on everything in the store, while supplies last. Please hurry in! We don’t want to miss the opportunity to thank you personally for supporting us on this amazing journey, while you stock up on all your favorite We Olive products!

Ikoi Sushi opened back in September in downtown Walnut Creek and their signage is up. There used to be a little “IKOI SUSHI” sign on the Rinehart Clock in front but that has been removed, leaving the GELATO text left over from a previous cafe, Honey Berry.

Yesterday we learned that Pokeatery opened in Walnut Creek and one thing that caught my eye was the Dole whip float which sure looked delicious. As it gets hotter out I think that’ll be irresistible. The week before I was at Ghirardelli in San Francisco and saw just about the biggest smile one can see as my kid devoured a Coke chocolate ice cream float. What is your favorite dessert?

The poke craze continues… Last December we learned that the frozen yogurt shop Blush was closing in Walnut Creek (near Whole Foods), to be replaced by Pokeatery, and they have now opened. There are two other Bay Area locations (San Mateo and Castro Valley) with Walnut Creek being their first franchise location. Check out their Walnut Creek menu here and find out more on their website here. I look forward to trying out a Dole whip float (see photo below)!
From a press release:
Inspired by the love of the Hawaiian Islands, Pokeatery founders, Joann and Derek Chung, wanted to bring some of their favorite flavors to the mainland and offer a place where anyone could come and enjoy great poké bowls as a meal whenever they crave it. Pokeatery has taken the Hawaiian flavors of poké and updated them with a modern California twist, offering several delicious varieties made with sashimi-grade Ahi, Albacore, Salmon and more. Their sustainably-sourced, quality seafood menu is complemented with quality produce and ingredients. Pokeatery offers a wide variety of bases, sauces and toppings, allowing customers to create customizable poké bowls in a fast casual atmosphere.

Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
According to the latest Walnut Creek permit information it looks like a Peloton cycling showroom is planned for Broadway Plaza next to Amazon. For about $2,000 you get the carbon steel frame bike professionally assembled in your home as well as a 12 month subscription to their $39/month riding plan with live streaming classes and real time performance tracking. Check out their classes here.
From their website:
Founded in 2012, Peloton brought top talent together in its Silicon Alley headquarters to create a new concept in fitness. We loved cycling but had a hard time finding a workout that consistently fit our schedules, and our at-home workouts never felt quite up to par. So, we set out to create a world-class indoor cycling studio experience on your time, and in the comfort of your own home.
