Check out these new street signs in downtown Concord; they’re GIGANTIC! Props to whoever was responsible for getting these put up, other cities should follow suit, or at least make sure there are street signs. Sometimes I’ll be on a corner trying to figure out what’s the cross street without any visible sign, even on the other three corners. Very annoying!

Tonli Kitchen, the new restaurant from the owners of the Tonli Dumpling House food truck we learned would be opening in the Avalon apartment complex across from Pleasant Hill BART station in Walnut Creek has now soft opened although they were closed when I dropped by over the weekend. Has anyone been yet? Any recommended dishes to try?

A new music school and recording studio called ModernTone Studios opened recently in Lafayette. Each room has been rebuilt with acoustics and soundproofing in mind and it looks really sharp. There are separate guitar and drum practice rooms and in addition to guitar, bass, drum and music theory lessons, you can even schedule a home recording lesson to learn how to make a kick-ass YouTube video using a state of the art recording studio. The studio and practice rooms are also available to pro musicians as well. Check out their schedule online here. As younger kids grow up with social media this looks like a great way to highlight your (or your kid’s) musical abilities instead of the old recital way once or twice a year.
From their website:
ModernTone Studios is a state of the art recording and teaching facility in Lafayette, CA. It is a truly unique place that caters to beginners, intermediate students, and advanced players who are looking to go pro. Run by performing artists and musicians who specialize in a wide variety of styles and genres, ModernTone aims to provide professional instruction, guidance, and support that empower people to realize and fulfill their potential and achieve their musical dreams. Whether you are a child or an adult, a casual player or an aspiring musician, we would love to share our passion, experience, and knowledge with you.

Last September we learned that the boba cafe T4 would be coming to Todos Santos Plaza in Concord and they have now opened. According to an employee, for their grand opening all drinks will be $2.50 Monday through Wednesday. Check out their menu here.
There was some confusion because a new restaurant called Fusion Bistro is also opening on the corner and that’s still happening. T4 is located next to Fusion Bistro and in fact are connected and share bathrooms since it’s the same owner.
