Moraga Commons Park
Has anyone ever played the disc golf course at Moraga Commons Park? I always thought it was called frisbee golf but there is official-looking course signage with Moraga Disc Golf Club and course information for each hole. According to DGCourseReview, there are 9 holes/baskets built in 1982.
This Lamorinda Weekly article from last year notes that the Moraga Disc Golf Club has, “between 75 and 100 active members” and meets on Tuesdays. Sounds fun!

Blackhawk Plaza, Danville
A couple of years ago Blackhawk Burger opened in Blackhawk Plaza in Danville and now San Francisco-based Beep’s Burgers will be opening in this spot soon. A few years ago Beep’s in San Francisco got a new owner according to this interesting article from The Ingleside-Excelsior Light. Has anyone eaten at Beep’s? Check out the San Francisco menu here. I look forward to trying this place out!
From the Blackhawk Plaza directory:
Back before man sky rocketed to the moon, Beep’s Burgers was already serving San Francisco with it’s unique food. Established in 1962, we have been dedicated to serving the best burgers along with a wide variety of dishes. Stop by soon at our new Blackhawk location and try it out for yourself!

1005 Brown Ave, Lafayette
Thanks to all who sent word about this… Yesterday was the last day (eight years in total) for the California French restaurant Artisan Bistro in Lafayette as they focus on their Peruvian restaurant LiMA at Todos Santos Plaza in Concord. An employee pointed out that some Artisan Bistro influences may eventually be included at LiMA.

It’s the end of an era as Concord Jewelers is set to close April 1st. This family-owned business has been in the same family for over 30 years, and the store has been in the same location since 1946 and the same street since 1907! Check out their website here where they may still sell some pieces online.
According to a newspaper article taped to the wall, it was founded by Charles W. Thissell (one of the first Concord photographers) in 1907 where in addition to selling jewelry and repairing watches, also sold Edison phonographs and Victor talking machines.
Side note: This is one of my favorite photographs after converting the iPhone 6s color image to black and white using the Silver Efex Pro 2 Nik plugin. The checkerboard flooring, vertical lines at the edges and glass square tiles combined with the old style lettering on the window/door really makes this pop. Farewell Concord Jewelers!

2:00pm | $10Hours after scientist and artist Steve Kurtz called 911 to report his wife’s death, medics suspicious of his work reported him to the FBI, who detained Kurtz as a suspected bioterrorist. Hershman Leeson examines the ensuing court case with interviews, dramatic re-enactments, animation, and news footage, following its twists and turns while exploring its chilling potential effects on free speech and science in post-9/11 America. Soundtrack by The Residents. (2007, 75 minutes, digital)
In conjunction with Lynn Hershman Leeson: Civic Radar, YBCA presents all four feature films by this remarkable and visionary artist. These movies expand on many of the themes of her visual art and interactive projects, playfully upending cinematic traditions with artistic approaches rooted in cutting-edge technology and feminist activism and theory. Oscar-winning actress Tilda Swinton is prominent among Hershman Leeson’s collaborators on these films, which also feature many other Bay Area-based artists.
