1320 Locust St, Walnut Creek
The grab-and-go juice, meal and snack spot Urban Remedy opened recently in downtown Walnut Creek next to Veggie Grill. It reminded me of Pressed Juicery a block away but they emphasized to me that they use organic ingredients. While Urban Remedy doesn’t offer frozen “yogurt” like Pressed does, they do offer ready-to-go meals and snacks. I tried the “Vegan Caesar with Cumin Chickpea Croutons” and cacao chip bar and enjoyed it! Especially since you’re allowed to sit outside where the Veggie Grill tables are. I’m not sure if that’s the official policy but people at both Urban Remedy and Veggie Grill said it’s ok to sit there which is great! Check out their meals and snacks here and juices here.

From a reader:
While riding my bike back from Safeway in downtown WC, I noticed a number of large “living areas” that had been cut out and blocked off by homeless residents on the side of the trail opposite the canal between Safeway and Trinity Center. I don’t know how much patrolling that trail gets but my assumption is that if it doesn’t get any attention, it’ll only get worse.

Encina Grande, Walnut Creek
It’s been a bit longer than a year since Safeway closed in the Encina Grande shopping center on Ygnacio Valley Rd. in Walnut Creek and now Whole Foods is set to open on November 2nd according to this article in the East Bay Times. The article highlights that there will be a self-serve pizza station, coffee, beer and wine bar as well as “high-tech digital ordering kiosks that let customers order sandwiches, burritos and other items on an iPad before picking them up when done shopping”. Can’t wait to check it out!
Last week Safeway reopened across the street in the new Orchards shopping center. Thanks to a reader for pointing out the article.
