The iconic Hubcaps sign is gone from the Hubcaps diner in downtown Walnut Creek, replaced by the soon-to-open Sacramento restaurant Broaderick Roadhouse and today from 9am – 2pm there is a job fair so it looks like the opening will be happening soon as noted previously. Check out their menu here.
Spotted outside of the Orinda library. I thought this was a microscope but according to the artist notes it’s an “abstract micrometer” (precision measuring tool) “as the symbol of the bureaucracies trying to impose perceived standards on individuals”.
This week we learned about a new Kickstarter to support a natural skincare product from a local resident. I’ve never actually contributed to a Kickstarter but I find it interesting to browse. The Orchards at Walnut Creek Safeway
Lot of progress being made at the two new supermarkets going up across the street from each other on Ygnacio Valley Rd. in Walnut Creek. Safeway used to be located at Encina Grande which closed in September and is being replaced by Whole Foods (see photo below). A new Safeway is being built right across the street in the new Orchards at Walnut Creek shopping center, expected to open by year-end. With Nob Hill Foods around the corner there will be plenty of food shopping options for people living nearby which will be great.

As you stroll by Vineyard Vines on N. Main St. from Mt. Diablo Blvd. in downtown Walnut Creek you may notice a painting of half of a flowerpot jutting out from the wall where the restaurant La Fogata is located. The building where Vineyard Vines is located used to be a parking lot and the flowerpot is part of gigantic mural which was never actually painted over. To see the original mural click here.

I wanted to get in touch with you about a Kickstarter campaign my mom and I launched Tuesday, the 29th, for a line of organic, gluten-free, and vegan body butters. It was born out of my many allergies. The body butters are for anyone who wouldn’t want to put anything on their skin they wouldn’t trust eating. They are great for parents who are looking for something safe for their kids—in fact, we have a lot of parents who’ve been using our products.
A Moraga mother and daughter team developed this new skincare butter and if you check out the Kickstarter video carefully you may notice that the farmers market and drugstore scenes were filmed at the Moraga farmers market and Moraga CVS drugstore. You can support their Kickstarter campaign here.
