They will be closing at the end of March (possibly sooner), and right now things are 20 – 40% off. This store closing is not the only one. Out with the cupcakes – in with the PIES! A new pie shop called Lizzy’s Pies has opened in the Downtown Pleasant Hill Shopping Center where Sinful Bliss Cupcakes used to be. Last month we learned that Pietisserie opened a popup location in La Fiesta Square in Lafayette so 2016 may turn out to be to the year of the pie…

This is All a Dream We Dreamed: An Oral History of the Grateful Dead:
Lafayette Library and Learning Center
3491 Mt. Diablo Blvd, Lafayette
Thursday, January 7th, 2016
7:00pm – 8:30pm | $15This epic oral history, by Blair Jackson and David Gans, of the 50-year-old band uses multiple perspectives to tell the story of a group that began as a San Francisco jug band of penniless hippies, morphed through multiple musical incarnations, and created a colorful psychedelic subculture. The more than 100 voices in the book include members of the Dead, including deceased guitarist/de facto leader Jerry Garcia, and keyboardists Ron Pigpen McKernan and Brent Mydlandand their collaborators as well as business partners and fans. Jackson and Gans relied on new and archival interviews, as well as other published and unpublished sources. To their credit, the authors focus as much on the creation, recording, and marketing of music as they do on the ingestion of hallucinogens. The result is a solid, engaging chronicle.

1149 S. Main St, Walnut Creek
We knew this was happening back in June but it’s still disappointing that Barnes & Noble actually closed in downtown Walnut Creek last Thursday. This was one of my go-to stores to drop by when in downtown and as I pondered the closing outside their doors over the weekend many others were surprised as they learned it was closed for good. I guess I’ll just have to browse for books virtually from now on.
Stay tuned for Anthropologie relocating here…

Have a great New Year everyone and enjoy the long weekend!
Thanks to a reader for pointing out that Pizza My Heart is coming to downtown Walnut Creek this spring. Their website notes that they will coming to the “corner of Botelho and California” and the address will be 1598 Botelho Dr, which differs slightly from Project Pie’s address 1590 Botelho Dr, but that location makes the most sense since it used to be… a pizza restaurant. Project Pie closed suddenly in October.
Check out their menu here and if you have access to a Walnut Creek address fill out the form on this page for a free t-shirt and, “a certificate for a free pizza slice at the Walnut Creek restaurant when it opens”.
