Vitality Bowls opened a couple of years ago in downtown Wlanut Creek and they are now offering coffee in addition to their signature Acai bowls. Check out their menu below.
From an email:
Vitality Bowls, the superfood sensation that is energizing Walnut Creek’s healthy food movement, is now catering to consumers desire to incorporate healthy ingredients into everyday items, such as coffee.
The superfood café in Walnut Creek has just launched a full-service coffee bar, complete with espresso and superfood drinks that are packed with antioxidant-rich açaí, pitaya and kombucha — for example, the Açaí Latte (espresso, açaí, coconut sugar, steamed almond milk) or the Superfood Mocha (espresso, CaCoCo superfood chocolate blend, steamed milk).
Has anyone read this Contra Costa Times guest commentary by former Walnut Creek mayor Kristina Lawson? Apparently members of the Walnut Creek city council traditionally rotate the mayorship among themselves and the youngest council member, Justin Wedel, was passed over for an “almost retired” CPA since the other, older city council members believe, “young people don’t have the requisite time to devote to public service.”
To get a better idea of what’s going on, check out the official Walnut Creek city council photograph here.
From the guest commentary:
Silva, the self-described “senior member of the City Council,” explained that she would not support Wedel because she believed that the council was his third priority, behind his family and his career. She explained in detail that she didn’t think he had the time, or maybe it was that, in her opinion, she thought he didn’t want to devote the time.
Do you feel the Walnut Creek city council is being dismissive of the younger generation or is there something else going on? Should the mayor of Walnut Creek be an elected position?
Downtown Pleasant Hill Shopping Center
In October we learned that Orchard Hardware would be replacing Lucky Supermarket in the Downtown Pleasant Hill Shopping Center and it looks like they will be opening very soon. I dropped by over the weekend and the inside looks finished. In fact while I was there a handful of people stopped by thinking it was already open. Any day now… Until then there’s always Home Depot in Concord.

Ice N Tea, Shaved Ice and Boba Tea opened a few months ago in the Sunvalley Shopping Center in Concord on the second floor. The newly revamped food court that was supposed to open this fall is still under construction…
Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
With the initial redevelopment finished, the Broadway Plaza store openings keep coming as Apex by Sunglass Hut opened over the weekend in downtown Walnut Creek in a small but great location right next to Macy’s. Interestingly, there is already a Sunglass Hut on the other side of Broadway Plaza near Neiman Marcus but this store will feature more sports eyewear. That being said Sunglass Hut still carries Oakley so I’m not sure how thrilled they are with Apex opening nearby…
