From the Moraga PD:
On 2/16/15 at approx. 1617 hours, a strong-arm robbery was reported on Camino Ricardo at Danefield Pl. in Moraga. Moraga Police responded and contacted the adult female victim, who reported that she had been walking on the sidewalk at the location when a vehicle pulled up and two suspects got out and accosted her. The suspects forcibly removed an over-the-shoulder style purse from her and fled the area in the vehicle, which was also occupied by another suspect. The suspects were all described as black males in their 20’s wearing black hoodies, and the vehicle was described as a black Mercedes with tinted windows. The victim, who had fallen to the ground during the incident, suffered minor abrasions but was otherwise uninjured. No weapons were displayed or observed during the incident. An extensive area check was conducted by Moraga, Lafayette, and Orinda police units but the suspects were unable to be located. The loss included cash and personal documents. The Moraga Police Department is actively following leads, including a report of a similar suspicious vehicle seen in the area. Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Sgt. Brian South at 925-888-7052 or police dispatch at 925-284-5010.

Over the weekend I stopped by Gelateria Naia in downtown Walnut Creek for a quick cone (I prefer their dark chocolate sorbet lately). I ordered my usual, a small, one scoop “bambino” sized sugar cone. It’s the perfect size for me. What irks me is that this size is nowhere to be seen on the menu. People in line with me had no idea about this size and happily ordered a bambino as well. The same with Smitten Ice Cream in Lafayette, no child sizes on the menu although they exist if you ask. On the other hand Lottie’s Creamery, also in downtown Walnut Creek, has a one scoop option on their menu. How hard is that?

6:30pm | $22The notion that humans can fundamentally alter the biochemistry of something as big as the Earth’s atmosphere is science fiction to some people. While politicians debate whether climate change is real, authors and filmmakers are tackling the far out notions in a new genre called Climate Fiction or Cli-Fi. How wild could a hot and crowded world get?
Films conveying a post-apocolyptic world include Interstellar, Waterworld, WallE and of course The Day After Tomorrow. Literature peering into a eco-dystopian future includes Paolo Bacigalupi’s The Windup Girl and Kim Stanley Robinson’s 2312.
The New Yorker called Kim Stanley Robinson “one of the greatest living science fiction writers.” Jason Mark recently penned an op-ed in The New York Times about Cli-Fi.
Join us for a broad conversation about climate fiction, film, science, politics, and more!
