Free Parking and Valet Service in Downtown Walnut Creek after 5pm from Nov. 5th – Dec. 31st

Walnut Creek Downtown (WCD) and the City of Walnut Creek are giving residents and visitors an early holiday gift: free garage parking and free valet service, and extended hours for the free downtown trolley.

Free Garage Parking
Beginning Wednesday, November 5 through Wednesday, December 31, 2014, parking will be free in the City’s 24 hour garages after 5 p.m. at the following locations:

1625 Locust Street (Next to the Lesher Center)

1350 Locust Street (Above Lark Creek Restaurant)

1390 N. Broadway (North of Il Fornaio)

Free Valet Service
“Three for Free” offers free valet service for three hours of parking, Thursday to Saturday, 5PM to 10PM in front of the Kitchen Table store, at 1373 Locust Street. Cars parked for more than three hours will be charged a $5 flat rate.

Athleta Opens in Broadway Plaza

Last month we learned that the women’s sports clothing store Athleta would be opening in Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek and they have now opened between Starbucks and the Tesla showroom. Considering that half of Broadway Plaza is closed for redevelopment it’s good to see a new store opening up.

As part of the ten-day Bay Area Science Festival Lindsay Wildlife Museum presents ‘Not-So-Scary Animals for Halloween,’ four days of fall fun featuring some of the world’s most frightening creatures – bats, owls, spiders, snakes, vultures and more – in a not-so-scary way. Each family friendly presentation includes meeting live animal ambassadors, learning about their special adaptations, and talking with their keepers.

Lucky Supermarket Closing on Nov. 8th in Pleasant Hill

Thanks to everyone who sent in word about Lucky supermarket closing in the Crescent Plaza in downtown Pleasant Hill. They will be closing on November 8th and according to one employee it will be replaced with an Orchard supply hardware store. Stay tuned…

Uniqlo Opens in Walnut Creek

It’s been less than a year since it was first announced and now the Japanese clothing store Unqilo has finally opened in downtown Walnut Creek across from Broadway Plaza. As you can see from the photo above it looks great and with two floors it’s more spacious than other locations. That being said, I miss their great t-shirt collections available in New York and Tokyo.

Oktoberfest at Hacienda in Moraga this Sunday

Oktoberfest 2014 will take place on Sunday, October 26, from 2 to 6 PM at the Hacienda de las Flores. Music will be provided by a live oompah band, and bratwurst mit kraut, strudel and pretzels along with German beverages will be available. Pumpkin painting and jumpy houses will entertain the children. A $5 donation per adult is requested. Under 21 is free. Parking and a free shuttle to the Hacienda will be available from Donald Rheem School. This event is presented by the Hacienda Foundation, and all proceeds will go to improvements to the Hacienda. With word that the Vietnamese restaurant Kevin’s Noodle House is reopening in Concord, and considering their Walnut Creek location has been open for a while now, I’m wondering what Vietnamese restaurants people have been going to. There is also Saigon Vietnamese Bistro on Newell Ave. that replaced Pho Saigon. So what’s your favorite Vietnamese restaurant?

There will be 16 East Bay bars and professional bartenders competing in the first annual Art of Mixologycraft cocktail competition and tasting happening on October 25 at Orinda Theatre Square. The fundraiser, held from 4:30pm to 7:00pm, will support arts programs throughout Lamorinda. Bars from the cities of Oakland, Berkeley, Emeryville, Orinda, Lafayette and Walnut Creek will be crafting their tastiest cocktails in the hopes of earning cash, trophies and the claim to Mixologist of the Year.

Participating bars include: Oakland’s Flora Restaurant, Forge, Hutch Cocktails and Oysters, Lungomare and Toast Kitchen + Bar; Lafayette’s The Cooperage American Grille, Metro Lafayette, Roundup Saloon and Yankee Pier; Orinda’s Barbacoa, Casa Orinda and Table 24; Walnut Creek’s Corners Tavern and Walnut Creek Yacht Club; Revival Bar + Kitchen in Berkeley; and Honor Kitchen & Cocktails in Emeryville.
