Thanks to everyone who sent in word that the Italian-Peruvian fusion restaurant Stelle Bistro has closed. Diablo Dish also reported that they “appeared” to have gone out of business. Although the inside shows the table settings still set, the Better Homes and Gardens Real Estate sign in front is the most public indication that they really have closed for good.
Back in May I noted that the Berkeley-based olive oil and balsamic vinegar company Amphora would be opening next to The Cooperage in downtown Lafayette and progress has been continuing as temporary signs are now up indicating that they are “coming this summer”. Check out their website here for a product list and more.

7:30pm – 8:30pm | FreeHow do I tell if a book is a first edition? What IS a first edition?
What makes some books worth many hundreds – or thousands – of dollars?
How do I know if a collectible book is worth the asking price?
If you have ever wondered about the above…
…please join us on Thursday evening, July 17th, for an informal discussion about book collecting, using examples from the works of Charles Dickens.

Last week I noted that Berkeley-based skin care company Body Time would be coming to Walnut Creek and it turns out they’re having a soft opening tomorrow, July 15th followed by the grand opening on Saturday, July 19th. I had a chance to preview the inside and it looks amazing (see photos after the jump). Check out their product line here. They also have a small men’s section in the shop (see product line here). They even offer birthday parties where kids can add scents and design their own lotion.
Check out more photos of the inside after the jump….
Opening Reception for “Unique Art, Unique Homes”:
Lafayette Art Gallery
3420 Mt. Diablo Blvd, Lafayette
Friday, July 11th, 2014
5:30pm – 7:30pm | FreeThe talent of the Lafayette Art Gallery’s circle of artists are on display in a stunning selection of works exhibited during “Unique Art, Unique Homes,” the gallery’s July/August show.
Energized by the gallery’s beautiful new quarters on Mt. Diablo Boulevard at Brown Avenue, the artists have filled the walls, display cases, and pedestals with more than 150 works of the first order, including paintings, jewelry, glasswork, ceramics, photographs, and more.
This show is an opportunity for homehowners and interior designers/decorators alike to view the breadth of artistic offerings in the gallery.
Also, in July, a kenietic sculpture piece by Scott Tyler will grace the patio of the Lafayette Art Gallery.
Lafayette Art Gallery announces the third of the new “Second Fridays”– monthly receptions to which the public is cordially invited. Come to meet the artists, have a glass wine, enjoy good conversation with art aficionados like yourself, and, of course, feast your eyes on a dazzling array of fine art.

Last month I noted that the Brewing Network-owned The Hop Grenade Taproom & Bottleshop would be opening in June and now Diablo Dish is reporting that they may be opening this Sunday. Check their Facebook page for updates. Check out their bar menu here.
This week we learned that Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf was close to opening in the Sprouts Shopping Center in Walnut Creek which got some comments about the bad parking situation there. Two years ago, before the Habit Burger had opened I was worried about parking:
The only thing I worry about is parking. It’s already pretty full now with only Sprouts being open. When Habit Burger, Freebirds World Burrito (next to Habit), and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf open up things could get ugly parking-wise.
When I go to Sprouts I have only been able to find 30 minute parking and even then I felt lucky. What other malls or downtown areas have difficult parking?
