Last month I noted that The French Bakery was closing in Lafayette and a new restaurant featuring local & sustainable comfort foods called American Kitchen will be opening in this spot in May. Check out their draft sandwich menu here. Which one of these would you most like to try? I love how they may offer PB&J as well as lobster rolls and cod sliders. Of course I’ll have to try the AK Burger.
From their Facebook page:
Rustic, approachable, casual – an anytime eatery with a walk-up window for quick bites to-go or stay and gather in this renovated old “mill-house” space. Farmhouse style with picnic tables out front, community seating, a fun neighborhood joint for lunch, happy hour, and dinner. ‘Kitchy’ yet clean & comfortable; ‘Americana’ in spirit, yet contemporary in style. A gathering place, a shack, a watering hole, a country house where we welcome you to our ‘chef driven’ American Kitchen…a new restaurant & gathering place where it’s an ‘all in the family’ food & bevy experience; fun for folks from all walks of life…serving only the finest all natural, sustainable foods & bevies!
Along with Roam Artisan Burgers, Cooperage and Rustic Tavern, the dining scene in downtown Lafayette has suddenly become a lot more diverse. Sweet!
Back in January I noted that the high-end camera store Camera West would be relocating to make room for the Japanese clothing store Uniqlo at the corner of S. Main St. and Botelho Dr. in downtown Walnut Creek and they have now reopened right next door, still on the second floor. The Leica boutique when you enter looks incredible. This is the place to go for high-end photography equipment. They also offer, “used equipment, accessories, instruction, camera maintenance and repair”, and trade/buy equipment as well. Check out their Facebook page here.
I’ve driven by here many times and finally decided to stop for a photo.
From Wikipedia:
The Lafayette Hillside Memorial is a collection of crosses, accompanied by a large sign, in Lafayette, California. The crosses are intended to serve as a memorial for United States soldiers killed in the Iraq War, with the sign containing a running total of the death count. The monument began to raise controversy in November 2006.
I wonder if the focus will ever change to those killed in all wars as opposed to just the Iraq war?
Last week I noted that Edwards Luggage would be reopening in a new Broadway Plaza location next to Neiman Marcus in Walnut Creek and they are now open. I stopped by inside and it looks really nice.

Fosters Freeze spotted in downtown Danville. I’ve never actually been to one of these, is the ice cream any good?
Macy’s Junior, located next to Macy’s Men and the new Banana Republic in Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek has relocated across the street to the “Women’s Building”. I never realized that was considered the women’s building as I shopped for kitchen goods and luggage on the third floor many times.
