Back in April a new parking lot was opened in the Moraga Commons Park and it turns out they seeded the buffer between the lot and the park with wild flowers. Kudos for that, looks great!

Earlier this month I noted that the Italian restaurant Picolo Napoli would be opening in Orinda Theatre Square and this weekend I dropped in to try out their pizza, salads and gelato and it was really good. Check out their menu here. Diablo Dish also has more information here. In addition to their online menu they also offer appetizers such as a caprese mozzarella salad, house salad and housemade bread sticks with roasted garlic and Parmesan.
If you’ve been reading this blog for a while you may know that I’m a huge pizza fan so how does it stack up? To me this reminds me of a traditional New York pizza, albeit a bit thinner. Mostly local ingredients are used including San Marzano and grape tomatoes and a six-cheese mix.
As for the gelato, mmmm. Very creamy and rich. The salted caramel flavor is insanely good.

Looks like the former Stereo Unlimited store on Locust St. in downtown Walnut Creek is getting a new cafe. According to my source it will be called Healing Foods Café which will offer customized food and diet programs for healthy eating as well as medical issues by using specific food types. Stay tuned…
Recently I checked out an art exhibit at the Bedford Gallery in the Lesher Center called, “Larger than Life: Exploring Scale in Contemporary Art”. It’s on display through August 18th and is really cool. I think everyone including kids will enjoy this exhibit. Although it’s hard to tell from the photos, most of these art pieces are massively huge.
From the Bedford Gallery exhibit page:
Since the Egyptians, art has played with the limits of its medium, stretching its size and scope to unfamiliar and unbelievable proportions. From the Great Sphinx of Giza, to Michelangelo’s Sistine Chapel, artists have realized large-scale projects that have pushed the dimensions of their work to new and spectacular heights (and lengths!)
Larger than Life will explore how contemporary artists have begun to use new materials and technologies to reshape the traditional scale of sculpture. Recently, artists have focused of unfamiliar materials and methods of construction, using these elements to investigate the oversized, overstuffed, and uncanny elements in art. This exhibition will encourage viewers to reconsider what they have come to know about the role of art, and the way in which subjects and themes can be represented.

This is the final kitchen to be featured from the Lafayette Juniors Kitchen Tour that took place last month in Lafayette. One cool feature I noticed was a shallow space in the kitchen island being used for grilling tools as you can see in the photo below. Great use of space!
This house, in particular the backyard, is an entertainer’s dream and in fact this is where the luncheon took place. There are so many great, shady spots in the back to hang out and enjoy the scenery.
