Back last February I noted that the wax salon Stript Wax Bar opened with Lashfully in downtown Walnut Creek but now Lashuflly has the place to themselves as Stript moved to Lafayette across from Artisan Bistro at 1040 Brown Street in a comfy homelike building.
Slated to open next January, Eden Housing’s Lafayette Senior Housing is progressing nicely as you can see by the wood framing in the photo. Located at 3426 Mt. Diablo Blvd. in downtown Lafayette it will have 46 rental homes for lower income seniors. Seniors qualify if they earn between 20 – 50% of the Contra Costa median income. And to BBQ lovers out there note that this is located right next to Bo’s Barbecue.
From the developer’s website:
Lafayette Senior Apartments, Eden Housing’s thirteenth development in Contra Costa County, will provide 46 new affordable rental homes for lower income seniors. This exciting new community is conveniently located in downtown Lafayette in close proximity to transit and amenities. Lafayette Senior will be affordable to senior households earning 20% to 50% of the Contra Costa County Area Median Income, and will include 17 apartments targeted to seniors with physical disabilities.
Designed to create a healthy living environment, Lafayette Senior will include many sustainable features for energy and water conservation. Other highlights include an onsite manager’s unit, a community room that opens onto an outdoor patio and formal garden, two sunrooms that overlook a second courtyard, a computer learning center/library, an exercise room, and raised planters for resident gardening.
Residents living at Lafayette Senior will have access to supportive resident services designed to help them “age in place” and live independently for as long as possible.

From Mighty Fine Guitars:
First up, this very Saturday night, at 9:00 p.m., right in The Big Room, immediately next-door to Mighty Fine Guitars, will be one of my very favorite bands, Houston Jones. Buckle up, folks.
I can hardly recommend these fellows highly enough. In fact, if you don’t absolutely love this band within the first 20 minutes, your Suggested Donation will be cheerfully refunded. They call their music “high-octane Americana,” and the Chronicle says Houston Jones is a “confluence of sublime talent.” Billboard says, “These guys are a rare treat.” Three of these fellows were in the very first iteration of The Waybacks all those years ago. In fact, Yours Truly will be jumping up on stage to join HoJo for a couple of numbers over the course of the evening. In the words of Shakespeare or the Beatles or Mae West or whoever it was, “a splendid time is guaranteed for all.”

Despite the “We’re Moving” sign in the window, Wags & Whiskers Pet Boutique will be closing by end of January. Located on Locust St. in downtown Walnut Creek this is disappointing news for cat and dog fans.
Take a good look at the above photo taken at the Walnut Creek Target. Look carefully and you won’t see pink Orbit bubblegum (not counting that “white” version). One of my weaknesses just happens to be Orbit bubblegum and I have always bought a pack or two at the Walnut Creek Target regularly. But over the past several months, the Walnut Creek Target has been completely sold out of Orbit bubblegum. Now I realize that stores can’t always be stocked with every single product, but this has been going on for MONTHS. A while back I thought that maybe the bubblegum flavor was being permanently dropped, but then I went to the Dublin Target and they had plenty of bubblegum Orbit. I couldn’t believe it!
Is this some kind of odd mix-up or is there something more to this that I’m not understanding?
Thanks for checking out this blog in 2012, it’s been fun. May everyone have a great 2013!
Back in November I noted that Footcandy would be closing in downtown Walnut Creek by the end of the year and sure enough, yesterday was their last day in business. Did anyone get a great deal over the weekend or was everything gone?
Back in September I noted the opening of the pop-up “design house” store Toss Designs in Broadway Plaza next to Nordstrom that was to remain open through January but apparently business has been doing well so they will remain in the same location for at least one more year. As you can see they now have signage up as well.
