Stelle Bistro, the Italian restaurant owned by the same owner as the now closed Caffe Delle Stelle a block away has finally opened up in the old Chili’s space which had been vacant for years on Locust St. in downtown Walnut Creek. You can check out their menu here. Some of the dishes I’d like to try are melanzane, chicken pesto, rustica pasta and paella marinera. Has anyone had a chance to check this place out yet? Any recommended dishes?
Open for dinner:
Stelle Bistro is located at 1403 Locust St. in downtown Walnut Creek.
Spotted at the Lafayette Whole Foods, it’s huge! I bought the TJs kit and plan on making it soon. Who else is making one?
Back in June when I noted that Eco Shoppe was closing in downtown Walnut Creek, I also mentioned that a mattress store may be opening up in its place, and it looks that tip was correct because this month the mattress store Sleep Number will be opening up on Mt. Diablo Blvd. around the corner from the Century movie Theater.
From their website:
The best sleep of your life begins with finding yourSleep Number setting. With our IndividualFit 3-D imaging you’ll see and feel how the Sleep Number® bed adjusts to you.
3D! I’m not in the market for a mattress but I think I may check this out. Sounds intriguing…
Way back in November of last year I noted that The Paint Palette was closing, and finally, after a year, they are no longer there. Note that this place is for sale, not rent. It’s located next to the Diablo Actors’ Ensemble Theatre and Peet’s Coffee in downtown Walnut Creek on Locust St.
This is the first window display I’ve seen where the mannequin is facing away from the window. Props to Neiman Marcus in Walnut Creek for their creativity!

Back in October I posted about progress on the high end ice cream shop Lottie’s Creamery, and the signage is now up and looks great. I’m really looking forward to trying this place out but I’m not sure if a December opening is in the cards like they note on their Facebook page. One can hope though!
A new popup art gallery called A Tom Matousek Gallery will be open through the holidays in the alley behind Patxi’s Pizzeria in downtown Lafayette on Mt. Diablo Blvd. Several artists are represented in various mediums such as paintings, photography and sculptures. When I dropped by the first time the art seemed familiar to me, and that’s because the artwork was on display at Cypress restaurant in Walnut Creek. Recognize it? I think it looks incredible! You can follow the gallery on their Facebook page here. They will be hosting a poetry reading soon so keep checking their page for updates.
Check out the artwork by Susan Jenkins and Tom Matousek:

This is really great stuff so if you’re in the area definitely drop by and check it out. The photos don’t do justice to how cool it really is. Can anyone name the musicians depicted in the artwork above?
NBC Bay Area reports that there was a huge break-in early Tuesday morning at the Walnut Creek Macy’s in Broadway Plaza:
Police are investigating a bold early Tuesday morning burglary at a Walnut Creek Macy’s in which someone broke windows to get into the department store, then stole jewelry from display cases, a police sergeant said.
