Not only has a new year come but a new decade as well. What do you predict will happen this decade, the 2020s? What restaurant, food and shopping trends will we see in 2030?

At the beginning of the year I asked about what your new year’s resolutions were. Well, another year has gone by; were you able to fulfill them? What did you accomplish that you’re especially proud of?
Christmas and Hanukkah are fast approaching and the wet weather isn’t dampening people’s spirit as they go about their lives getting ready for the holidays. What is your favorite part of Christmas and the holidays this season? Spending time with family? Food and a cozy environment? Presents?
I know that organic produce tends to be smaller but these apples I spotted at Whole Foods the other day are ridiculously small! They are like over-sized cherries! Can you imagine eating one like a regular-sized apple? Just the thought makes me snicker! Anyway, in my family we eat Fuji apples. I’ve tried buying other varieties but they always tell me to go back to the Fuji. What is your favorite apple variety?

‘Tis the season for Christmas decorations. I always enjoy driving by houses with extravagant lighted decorations!
From a reader email:
Do you have any Christmas light viewing recommendations for the area?
For example certain neighborhoods or streets?

Although I have been using Apple AirPods from the beginning, my family has been requesting headphones so we checked out various Sony headphones (expiring points) at BestBuy in Pleasant Hill and thought they were quite amazing especially with the noise cancelling feature. It looks like the new AirPods Pro also offers noise cancelling but I don’t know if that justifies the $249 price tag. Do you prefer headphones or ear buds? Wireless or wired? What is your favorite brand/model?
Unbelievably, PG&E is planning to turn off power again, this time over the weekend in some areas of Contra Costa county. Did you get an email about a shutdown in your area? Are you planning on doing anything to prepare?
From PG&E:
Possible event 10/26/19
Weather conditions, including potential fire risk, have been forecast that may impact electric service to portions of our service area. If a decision is made to turn off power, we expect to start turning off power for safety as outlined below. If you live in these communities, PG&E will attempt to contact you via telephone, text and email.
Please check back for the latest information as the area and number of customers impacted are updated as weather conditions change.
Outages (weather event plus restoration time) could last longer than 48 hours. For planning purposes, PG&E suggests customers prepare for outages that could last several days.

The new BART trains have been on the tracks for a while now, although I rarely seem to get one when I ride. The new features are explained in depth here. Although there is much less seating, I like the middle third door which makes it much easier when exiting. Do you like the new BART trains? Is there anything you don’t like about the new trains?
Yesterday PG&E shut down it’s power grid for much of the day in many parts of Contra Costa although not downtown Walnut Creek, which is where I headed to eat, charge and use my laptop. On the one hand this was done to lower the risk of a fire starting due to strong winds and dry conditions. In fact as I walked outside I did notice it was quite blustery. On the other hand weren’t there other precautions that could have been taken instead?
Does this sale sign really warrant an exclamation point? Is there anyone shopping for pasta thinking, “99 cents is too pricey but once it hits 95 cents or lower I’m in!” Just wondering…
Maybe people subconsciously love sales so much that no matter how small the discount, or how marked up it was previously, they can’t resist?
