Earlier this week we learned of yet another pizzeria coming to downtown Walnut Creek. For today’s question of the day, I thought it would be interesting to find out what unique business you would want to see in downtown Walnut Creek? I would like to see SPiN, a ping pong social club open here.
Back in the olden days, i.e. before cell phones included a camera, everyone used dedicated cameras. There were Polaroid instant cameras, point and shoot cameras with 35mm film, and of course bigger cameras with interchangeable lens. Now most cameras are digital but since it’s possible to take photographs with your camera, there is less reason to lug around a separate camera. Do you use a dedicated camera? Does the quality make it worthwhile to lug around? At times I think about getting a camera especially as summer rolls around and trips are getting planned, but I always end up using my iPhone and am generally happy with the results, although miss the bokeh.
When I saw this broken SEARS sign at the Sunvalley shopping center recently I couldn’t help but think of this as a perfect representation of the hardships brick and mortar stores face as they compete with online stores. Is it too late for stores like SEARS and Macy’s to recover? If you were made CEO of these stores what would you do differently to make them become successful again?

There has been quite a bit of news lately about five schools from the Northgate area in Walnut Creek wanting to split from the 32,000 student Mt. Diablo school district which includes schools in Concord, Pleasant Hill, Pittsburg, Martinez and elsewhere. Check out the proposal for the proposed Northgate school district here. According to this NBC Bay Area article, many opposed the plan as “discriminatory and elitist”. Do you think so? If you lived in Northgate would you want to split to form a new district?
This week we found out that a new Golden State Warriors store will be opening tomorrow in downtown Walnut Creek, conveniently located right next to the Giants Dugout store. Considering how well the Warriors have been doing it’s hard to find someone who is NOT a Warriors fan. I’ve always liked baseball and enjoy going to both AT&T Park for the Giants and the Oakland Coliseum for the A’s.
What is your favorite local team to watch on TV and to see in-person?
With fast, casual restaurants becoming more popular around here, some readers have commented on pricing that approaches full-service restaurants. I can attest to the fact that with a family of four the bill can easily exceed $50 for lunch. So for today’s question of the day, what is your favorite reasonably priced fast casual restaurant?

Earlier this week a 69 year old Vietnamese immigrant refused to give up his seat on a United flight while getting ready to take off with his wife back to his home in Louisville. I’ve been reading the news about this and was amazed to learn that it’s within the airline’s rights to kick off passengers to accommodate airline employees (which is different from overbooking). It’s one thing if this happened pre-boarding, but to do it while seated on the plane, especially with other family members on-board is beyond the pale.
If this happened to me I would be beyond pissed off. But would I do what the passenger, Dr. David Dao did and stand my ground? I doubt so. What would you do? I think this passenger could be considered a hero who may single handedly change how airlines treat seated passengers getting ready for take-off. This reminds me of the mad as hell scene from the movie Network (1976):
As you can see from these photos I’ve been noticing signs for single-person bathrooms meant for anyone to use labeled as “All-Gender”, “Gender Neutral” etc. Considering that only one person can use them at a time why not just label it “Restroom”? What do you make of these new bathroom signs?
When I saw the “Gender Neutral Restroom” sign below that still had the Women’s symbol on the door itself I felt so awkward that I walked to the other side to go to the Men’s Gender Neutral restroom instead.

It’s been several years since the last favorite burger FQotD post. A lot has changed since then as restaurants like Roam, Mona’s and plenty more have opened. This week Burger Lounge opened in the Orchards shopping center in Walnut Creek, located near the second Mona’s and Evie’s.
A Corners Tavern burger still ranks up there as one of my favorites. With all these choices available, where is your favorite spot to grab a burger?
With various marathons and races coming up (Oakland is April 2nd), I see plenty of people hitting the trails to get in some exercise during the sporadic dry spells. Where is your favorite trail you like to run or walk? The Lafayette Reservoir rim trail is nice but steep. What other recommended trails are there?
