With the new year comes the new year’s resolutions. I haven’t given much thought to specific resolutions but I’d like to run more. What is your New Year’s resolution?

This week we learned that a new poke restaurant may be coming to Lafayette where the Chinese restaurant The Tasteful Noodle is which got me wondering what favorite Chinese restaurants people go to in the East Bay. Are there any really good Chinese restaurants comparable to what can be found in Oakland or San Francisco? What is your favorite?
With Christmas and Hanukkah coming up very soon, I wonder what people’s favorite holidays are. My favorite holiday is Independence Day on July 4th. I love a fireworks show on a warm summer night. Thanksgiving is up there as well. What is your favorite holiday?

Although the seasons here aren’t quite as pronounced as they are where I grew up on the East Coast, there are definite variations. I have always been a summer person. Possibly spring because that leads to summer. Although I’m glad the wet winter is helping out with the drought, I’m just not as happy-go-lucky walking around compared to a summer day wearing shorts and t-shirt.
What is your favorite season?

As it gets colder and wetter out I imagine the ski conditions are getting better around here. Ever since I had a bad accident skiing in Japan years ago I haven’t gone skiing again but I’m thinking about going up to Tahoe so my kids can try out skiing. Do you ski? Where are the best places to ski around here?
This week we learned that a new stationery store called Live Happy Paper Crafts opened in Danville. While browsing around an employee mentioned that it was a great place for crafting. I didn’t realize crafting was a thing but apparently it’s quite popular. If you craft, what is your favorite crafting or stationery store? I imagine Paper Source in Walnut Creek would be a great place for crafting.
It’s been a little over a week since the Presidential election took place, with the winner, Donald Trump, having won less votes than his opponent, Hillary Clinton, due to the Electoral College:
The Electoral College consists of 538 electors. A majority of 270 electoral votes is required to elect the President. Your state’s entitled allotment of electors equals the number of members in its Congressional delegation: one for each member in the House of Representatives plus two for your Senators.
Read more in this NY Times Room for Debate article here. Do you think the Electoral College should be abolished?

Can you or readers provide insight as to the closing of numerous restaurants around town? Here’s the list my friends and I have accumulated 3 big ones [+ Ottavio] so far:
Pasta Pomodoro
Elephant Bar
Tahoe Joe’s
OttavioJust curious. Some others have closed with others springing up in their location but these large locations look like they may be vacant awhile.

This week we learned that the Italian restaurant Pasta Pomodoro closed in Pleasant Hill which got me wondering what the best Italian restaurants are around here. Walnut Creek has Ottavio, Danville has Locanda Ravello. Pleasant Hill also has Wisegirl Ristorante Italiano which opened earlier this year. What is your favorite Italian restaurant?
With Total Wine & More opening in Pleasant Hill yesterday, and BevMo! renovating and opening new stores, the amount of alcoholic choices available are enormous. I’m not a big drinker, usually stick to beer or wine, but I’m wondering what are your favorite mixed drinks and recipes for how to make it at home. Any recommendations?
