As I drive around this holiday season it’s fun to see the different Christmas and holiday decorations on display around town. I always make a special side trip to see the really special ones. Do you put up decorations during Christmas time in December?

When winter comes around and things start to cool down, I start getting a hankering for seafood for some reason. The Walnut Creek Yacht Club is an obvious choice for seafood that I enjoy. Chilled Dungeness crab is a favorite of mine, although not this year unfortunately. What is your favorite seafood restaurant? What is your favorite seafood dish?

Yesterday there was a talk given about the “Joy of Small House Living” at the Lafayette Library. Sometimes I browse beautiful galleries of tiny/small houses and dream about getting 20 acres in the country and plopping down one of these tiny houses where I could live peacefully while still travelling and seeing the world. But is this realistic? Would you live in a tiny house (< 400 sf)? What about a small house (< 1000 sf)?

I used to love eating oysters. That is until I learned last month that they, “appear to be an important link in the transmission of norovirus among humans”. I haven’t eaten one since. Three days ago I learned that one of my favorite foods, the humble hot dog, increases one’s risk for cancer. Even a healthy snack like seaweed of all things may cause cancer, as I posted about yesterday.

Do I just throw caution to the wind and ignore these warnings or make a conscientious effort to avoid certain foods? I think I should quit oysters for good, cut down on hot dogs and red meat slightly and ignore the warnings for seaweed. Do all these food warnings concern you? Does it affect what you eat?

Last month we learned that Nespresso was opening in Broadway Plaza and the other day while waiting in line at Peet’s where there is a dedicated beans line got me wondering how many people make their own coffee at their home. Do you make your own coffee? Do you grind your own beans? What’s the best way to make coffee?
