3003 Oak Rd, Walnut Creek

With the eagerly anticipated opening of the South American restaurant Sabores del Sur in Walnut Creek near the Pleasant Hill BART station this week, I checked out a preview party last week and as expected the food was delicious. The high ceilings and cheery decor make for a great spot to stop by for a bite to eat. I am not kidding when I say those alfajores cookies are delicious, not to mention the empanadas and pastel de choclo (Chliean casserole). I will definitely be back ASAP for more!

1545 Locust St, Walnut Creek

The long anticipated wine tasting room Buon Vino opened in downtown Walnut Creek yesterday and right now they’re offering a selection of eight different Napa and Sonoma wines (six ounces for $10) for their grand opening. Those six ounces can be split any way so you could try three two ounce wines, or one six ounce glass of wine. You can buy bottles of wine there and no bottle is over $20.

There are standing areas around the front of the store and in the back there is a gigantic table that’s available for hourly rentals that includes a couple of bottles of wine, and there’s a TV as well so according to the owner if you’re looking for a place to host a Bachelor/Bachelorette viewing party look no farther.

2300 N Main St, Walnut Creek

Thanks to a reader for sending word about construction going on at Ajisai, the Japanese grill and sushi restaurant that closed back in January due to the owner not being able to renew their lease according to their Facebook page. Anyone know what’s going on here?

1633 Bonanza St, Walnut Creek

Thanks to a reader for sending word that a new restaurant has opened in downtown Walnut Creek called (310) Eatery which serves LA style street food. This Bonanza St. downtown Walnut Creek location is where Cafecitos Cafe used to be and is still in soft-opening mode as the Cafecitos Cafe decor is still up temporarily. Check out their menu below. I really want to try The Westside Classic Hot Pastrami Dip as well as the burger of course. They are open Mondays – Thursdays 11am – 9pm and Fridays/Saturday 11am – 3am. (310) is one of the world’s most familiar area codes belonging to the greater metropolitan Los Angeles area. Synonymous with so many things including lifestyles and a way of life, a few of us “foodies” following in that mantra were inspired to create the very first (310) Eatery.

Having worked independently at various Bay Area hot spots and then later at a hip East Bay burger and a tap room combo, Aaron, Karen and Brit, all with a passion for really good, “Krazy” popular L.A. style street food would like to share that same passion now with you all.

Originally from Blackpool, England, Chef Sean is committed to bringing his passion for the culinary arts to Tender Greens and has played a strong role in the kitchens of the Auberge Resorts as well as The Ritz Carlton Half Moon Bay prior to joining the team at the Walnut Creek restaurant.

Chef Sean presents the Roasted Monterey Squid Salad as a unique menu item only available at Walnut Creek, made with fresh caught squid, frisee, lacinato kale, shaved fennel, heirloom oranges, spiced almonds, olives and a lemon vinaigrette. Keeping with the Tender Greens’ mantra of “slow food done fast” at an affordable price point, the Roasted Monterey Squid Salad is served to guests for just $11.
