Less than six months later the exterior of the Chinese restaurant OI-C Bowl has been mostly completed as you can see in the above photo. I wonder if that giant picture on the wall will reappear?
Back in January I noted that TheBEND Food Truck Market would be opening this month in Walnut Creek at 2211 N. Main St. but the opening has been pushed back until mid-late April:
To all of our valuable food truckies out there…Unfortunately we have been delayed again. We are looking at mid to late April to open the market. All of us at the the BEND are working very hard with the City of Walnut Creek and doing small site improvements during the next three weeks. Please bear with us as we strive to bring the market to life! As of now we will remove all trucks from the schedule and wait until the construction is nearing an end to open up the schedule for booking!

Back in November I learned that Jalisco Gourmet Burritos had closed and now thanks to a reader tip I have learned that a new Concord-based Mexican restaurant called Taqueria el Molino has recently opened in this Nob Hill Shopping Center location. Their Concord location offers catering while the Walnut Creek location offers sit-down and to-go meals. Check out their menu below. For those who have tried this place, what dish do you recommend?

The Cooperage opened a couple of weeks ago and I dropped by for dinner over the weekend and was lucky to snag a small booth without a reservation. Even though it was very early in the evening the place was absolutely packed. Check out the entire dinner menu here. Of course I had to try the Cooperage Burger “Angus burger, lettuce, tomato, pickle, red onion jam, toasted bun, Kennebec French fries”. Check out those onion rings on top of the burger, delicious! Possibly the best onion rings I’ve ever had. The burger was less fatty compared to what I’ve had elsewhere but quite tasty. At a reasonable $13 I’ll be back for more.
More photos after the jump…
Now that the weather has cleared up and is getting warmer out brunch has been on my mind lately. My usual routine is to fire up the waffle maker on Sunday mornings with some freshly squeezed orange juice and a big pot of loose tea but it would be nice to go out for a yummy brunch somewhere nearby. Pizza Antica has started offering brunch recently and there are plenty of other eateries as well. So for today’s question, what is your favorite place for brunch?
Last month I noted that The French Bakery was closing in Lafayette and a new restaurant featuring local & sustainable comfort foods called American Kitchen will be opening in this spot in May. Check out their draft sandwich menu here. Which one of these would you most like to try? I love how they may offer PB&J as well as lobster rolls and cod sliders. Of course I’ll have to try the AK Burger.
From their Facebook page:
Rustic, approachable, casual – an anytime eatery with a walk-up window for quick bites to-go or stay and gather in this renovated old “mill-house” space. Farmhouse style with picnic tables out front, community seating, a fun neighborhood joint for lunch, happy hour, and dinner. ‘Kitchy’ yet clean & comfortable; ‘Americana’ in spirit, yet contemporary in style. A gathering place, a shack, a watering hole, a country house where we welcome you to our ‘chef driven’ American Kitchen…a new restaurant & gathering place where it’s an ‘all in the family’ food & bevy experience; fun for folks from all walks of life…serving only the finest all natural, sustainable foods & bevies!
Along with Roam Artisan Burgers, Cooperage and Rustic Tavern, the dining scene in downtown Lafayette has suddenly become a lot more diverse. Sweet!
Fosters Freeze spotted in downtown Danville. I’ve never actually been to one of these, is the ice cream any good?
