Now that’s a well-taped broken window, hope it gets fixed soon.

1519 N. Main St, Walnut Creek
Back in July I noted that Lafayette-based Oyama Sushi was coming to Walnut Creek and it looks like the opening is not far away as the inside looks almost finished judging from the below photo.
The store closings are continuing apace in Broadway Plaza and this time Häagen-Dazs, located next to Macy’s has exited. With winter approaching I imagine this is probably as a good a time as ever for an ice cream store to leave due to the impending demolition and reconstruction of Broadway Plaza sometime after January.
531 Hartz Ave, Danville
China Paradise has been closed for several months on Hartz Ave in downtown Danville but a recent sign in the window indicates that a new restaurant called Yo’s on Hartz will be opening up in this spot. Stay tuned…
2280 Oak Grove Road, Walnut Creek
Back in September I noted that the Dublin based bakery and restaurant Denica’s would be opening a Walnut Creek location (in the Nob Hill shopping center) and they are now open (h/t Patch). Check out their menu here. This looks like a good place for brunch, anyone go yet? What do you recommend? When I dropped by they had various sample trays with cookies above the pastry counter. They also offer fruit-infused water which is a nice touch.
Check out the pastry counter:
65 Moraga Way, Orinda
Located next to Peet’s Coffee on Moraga Way in downtown Orinda, the space formerly occupied by Trattoria Lupetti will reopen as FUSCION Restaurant in November 2013 according to a sign above the doorway. The only thing I can find about this restaurant is in the sign itself, “Fine Dining”. Anyone know what kind of restaurant this will be? Thanks to a reader for sending in this tip.
1616 N. Main St, Walnut Creek
The building where the Chinese restaurant OI-C Bowl is located in downtown Walnut Creek apparently has a problem with the section above the awning in front and because of city regulations a bunch of upgrades will need to be made. OI-C Bowl will remain open during the remodel but the parking lot next to it will be closed until December.
1518 Bonanza St, Walnut Creek
Back in May I noted that the Japanese restaurant Fujian was closing in downtown Walnut Creek on Bonanza St, to be replaced by an Indian restaurant called Kanishka’s and door signage is now up with a planned Fall opening. However, take a look at the photo below and you’ll notice a red notice which is a stop order from the city, hopefully it’s not delayed too long. They are currently looking for a head chef on Craigslist here.
From their Facebook page:
Kanishka’s brings a hi-energy socializing Gastropub experience over Global Fusion mashup, Neo-Indian small plates seductively paired w microbrews n wines.
Two Lafayette restaurants, Artisan Bistro and Chevalier have been selected as part of the 2013 Michelin Bib Gourmand list of Bay Area restaurants that, “denotes good cuisine at a reasonable price”. The complete list can be found here. Why is Walnut Creek always snubbed? Are there no restaurants that fit this criteria or is Walnut Creek not considered the Bay Area?
From their website:
Defined as “Inspectors’ Favorites for Good Value,” Bib Gourmand restaurants offer two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less (tax and gratuity not included), and are often of most value to a city’s residents, who regularly dine in neighborhood restaurants.

Saturdays from 11am – 3pm the Off the Grid mobile food market comes to the parking lot of the Willows Shopping Center in Concord where 10 food trucks are stationed offering various cuisines with live music playing in the background. As you can see in the photo below, a KoJa Kitchen food truck which has been featured on the Food Network was extremely popular. Get in line early though as it fills up quickly. As I took this photo a really long line wrapped behind me for KoJa. Anyone been here? Besides KoJa Kitchen what other food trucks do you like?
