City Center Bishop Ranch, San Ramon
The eagerly anticipated opening of San Francisco-based Slanted Door has arrived as they open for dinner this evening in the new City Center Bishop Ranch shopping plaza in San Ramon. Lunch will be available at a future date. Check out their dinner menu here and drink menu here.
From their website:
Our space is one of the two glass boxes that visually “end” the plan of the Piazza. So on the one hand we had the challenge (and opportunity) to design in a space that is transparent on all sides. Restaurants usually hide a lot of program, but in this case we celebrated it. We also wanted to emphasize the transparency from the piazza side, so we used materials with a lot of tonal contrast (blacks and whites) to draw one’s eye without resorting to color, which we felt would have been less in keeping with Piano’s overall pallet.
Lafayette Mercantile
Thanks to everyone who emailed that the seafood restaurant Yankee Pier will be closing today in the Lafayette Mercantile shopping center. Apparently high rent as well as lower revenue caused the same group that owned Lark Creek in downtown Walnut Creek to exit. However, their website does show they also own nearby Cooperage and Corners Tavern. I wonder if the addition of newer restaurants Batch & Brine and Barranco across the street impacted them negatively?
145 E. Prospect Ave, Danville
Danville Soup and Salad Shack closed only a couple of months after opening on E. Prospect Ave. in Danville. I was glad to have been able to try their clam chowder. Oh well.
1389 N. Main St, Walnut Creek
It’s been weeks since the downtown Walnut Creek Greek restaurant Pomegranate has been open due to, “staff training”. I remember how proud the previous owner was about their pomegranate trees in front of the restaurant. I know there is a new owner but how much longer do we have to wait for this to reopen?
1523 Giammona Dr, Walnut Creek
It’s been over a year since we first learned about Tozai Izakaya opening in downtown Walnut Creek and the wait will soon be over as they soft open next Thursday on January 3rd. Compared to Ramen Hiroshi (same owners), this spot is way more spacious. Considering how much I enjoy the ramen there (especially in the East Bay), I can’t wait to try the food here as well!
1388 Locust St, Walnut Creek
Last week we learned that Torsap Thai Kitchen would be opening in downtown Walnut Creek where Sunol Ridge used to be and they have now opened. The warm yet modern looking inside feels amazing and with a menu designed by San Francisco-based chef Lalita Souksamlane (see menu here) I look forward to trying these dishes out! Check out more photos below including an amazing gold-leaf embellished mural in front. Note that they plan to serve beer from the taps left over from Sunol Ridge which won’t be available until they get their ABC state license.
More photos of the inside after the jump…
2050 Diamond Blvd, Concord
Golden Corral will be opening in a new Concord location right across from the Veranda shopping center where Hometown Buffet used to be. Their closest nearby locations are in Sacramento and Tracy. Check out nutrition details for their menu items here.
From their website:
When the first Golden Corral® restaurant opened in Fayetteville, North Carolina in 1973, Golden Corral Corporation took a confident first step in the restaurant business, beginning a tradition of offering guests real, wholesome foods in a family-friendly atmosphere and at a great value. Nearly 45 years later, Golden Corral® is honored to be called America’s #1 buffet and grill.
The Shops at Todos Santos, Concord
Of all the restaurants coming to the new Shops at Todos Santos plaza in Concord it’s not surprising that Chipotle is making the most progress.
Thanks to a reader who emailed that they are planning to open mid-January.
The Vineyard, Concord
In April we learned that the cafe Bambu would be coming to the Vineyard shopping center in Concord and thanks to a reader for pointing out they have been closed for months now. Despite the “hope to see you again soon” sign on the door, judging by the emptiness inside I’m not getting my hopes up.
