Batch & Brine Opening June 4th in Lafayette

Late last year we learned that a new restaurant called Batch & Brine would be coming to Lafayette where Swad Indian Cuisine used to be and they are planning to officially open on June 4th according to their Facebook page. Check out their Instagram gallery here. According to this Oakland magazine article the owner operators come from Hubcaps, Broadericks Roadhouse, Mel’s and other restaurants. In addition to burgers there will be a brunch menu, 20 beers on tap (+ wine and cocktails), and something I look forward to, house-made pastrami sandwiches!

The vertical living garden walls spaced throughout the exterior looks amazing; this is going to be a great addition to Lafayette.

Black Angus Steakhouse Reopens in Pleasant Hill

Black Angus Steakhouse, which closed last July in Pleasant Hill after a small electrical fire damaged the building exterior, has reopened with a similar interior and slightly revamped menu. Check out their menu here. I had a chance to try the prime rib steak, which are aged at least 21 days, and it was super-tasty.

Panera Bread Closing Tomorrow at Plaza Escuela in Walnut Creek

Thanks to everyone who emailed that Panera Bread is closing in Plaza Escuela in downtown Walnut Creek. Tomorrow will be their last day:

Our bakery-cafe at 1140 Locust Street in Walnut Creek will permanently close its doors at the end of the day on Tuesday, May 22nd.

Of course, you can still get your favorites at one of our nearby bakery-cafes. We hope to see you soon.

Progress on Solo Vida Restaurant in Danville

A new restaurant called Solo Vida is planned for the new construction going on at the corner of Railroad Ave. and Church St. in Danville. As you can see in the above photo the outside looks mostly done. According to a LinkedIn profile it looks like the CEO of this restaurant is also CEO of Primavera Ristorante in San Ramon. Update on The Foundry Food Hall in Downtown Walnut Creek

Back in 2016 we learned of a new food hall called The Foundry coming to downtown Walnut Creek across the street from the Century movie theater and recently there was a Design Review meeting with new details. As you can see in the updated rendering above the new plan calls for a one story building with mezzanine towards the back of the building. The mezzanine will include restrooms, seating, and an indoor/outdoor bar with a large covered patio overlooking the courtyard. There will also be an outdoor kids movie theater, play structure and flex area to offer games like corn-hole, live music etc. I’m hoping this will open in 2020 and they’ll be able to fit a koi pond!

New Limited Edition Pizzas Available at Slice House in Walnut Creek to Support Charity

Two new pizza pies are available at Slice House in downtown Walnut Creek with $1 from each slice/$6 from pies going to support George Mark Children’s House. Available now through September 19th.

Panik Parm Pie

breaded chicken cutlets, sliced Mozzarella, tomato sauce, garlic, grated Parmigiano, oregano and olive oil

Belt’s Monster Meat Pizza

pepperoni, sausage, bacon, red and green onion, bell pepper, shaved Parmigiano and Romano cheeses and a side of chili oil

For the third year in a row, Tony Gemignani is teaming up with San Francisco Giants Joe Panik and Brandon Belt to benefit the George Mark Children’s House, this year with a more aggressive fundraising goal and an added location to sell the charity pies. From May 17-September 19, $1 from each players’ custom slice and $6 from each full pie sold will be donated to the House, which offers life-affirming care and comfort for children and their families. This year, the trio’s goal is to raise $12,000.

Chow Closes in Danville

Thanks to everyone who sent word that Chow has closed in Danville on Railroad Ave. Their Lafayette, Oakland and San Fracnisco locations remain open. I heard the rent was just too damn high…

After a decade here on Railroad Avenue, we have made the decision to close our doors. We have truly enjoyed being a part of this community, and to have had the chance to be a part of your lives.

This isn’t goodbye – we look forward to seeing you again soon in Lafayette, where you will find the same great menu, and a lot of familiar faces. You can also visit us in Oakland, at our newest location on Piedmont Avenue, or at our very first location on Church Street in San Francisco.

Wow Wow Lemonade Opens in Danville Livery

Late last year we learned that Wow Wow Lemonade, the Hawaiian lemonade shop would be coming to the Danville Livery shopping center on Sycamore Valley Rd. and they have now opened. In addition to lemonade they also offer iced coffee, limeade, iced tea and even acai bowls, avocado toast and more items.

Fat Maddie’s Coming to Blackhawk Plaza in Danville

In March we learned that San Ramon-based restaurant Fat Maddie’s opened in the Downtown Pleasant Hill shopping center and they will also be coming to Blackhawk Plaza in Danville where FieldHouse Sports Grill used to be. Check out their menu here.

Coffee Shop Opening in Danville this Summer

Last month we wondered what was going on at the former Crafts Creamery location in Danville and it turns out that the uber-hip Coffee Shop, which started in Downtown Walnut Creek a few years ago, will be opening a new location there this summer.
