Thanks to everyone for sending word that after three years in Walnut Creek Sunol Ridge restaurant and bar has closed. Note that three resaturants on this Locust St. & Cypress St. corner are all closed. Crogan’s closed earlier this year and Stelle Bistro closed right after Sunol Ridge opened three years ago in July. And life goes on.
The message on and offline says:
We are reassessing the vision of Sunol Ridge and will cease operations effective August 1, 2017.
We thank you for your patronage over the years and look forward to serving you again.

Earlier this year we posted scuttlebutt about how the boba cafe T4 may be coming to downtown Walnut Creek and this is now been confirmed based on a peek inside. T4 already has one cafe in Walnut Creek in Ygnacio Plaza and this will be, incredibly, the fourth boba cafe in downtown Walnut Creek in addition to Mr. Green Bubble, Chalogy, and iTea. There are now more boba cafes than ice cream shops (Lottie’s Creamery, CREAM, San Francisco Creamery) in downtown Walnut Creek!
I’m still waiting for a rice pudding cafe though…
25A Orinda Way, Orinda
In March we learned that Orangetheory Fitness would be coming to the new development across the street from the Orinda library and now Coffee Shop is also planning on opening in this location according to an email from What’s Up Downtown Orinda. With their original cafe in Walnut Creek, and more recently, Lafayette, they are really focusing on the East Bay city by city. Check out their roasters here.

The Eastern European restaurant Babushka has reopened in Walnut Creek. The deli has been open in the back for a while now and there will be a full bar in back where I naturally spotted a samovar on the counter.
From their website:
A family business established in 1996. Husband and wife Leo and Maya Malkov with their two children Zoriy and Biana immigrated to the states in 1993. Babushka Market was opened and began as a Deli and Cafe, until people began to ask for more of their delicious foods. With that request, and the amount of people coming to dine at the café, the family renovated the into a full-service restaurant.
The renovation began in 2002, and the restaurant was up and running by 2004. During this time, Zoriy had begun pursuing a culinary education, and stepped into the family business ready to add his personal flare to the restaurant. After graduating and gaining experience in several kitchens around the area, Chef Zoriy took over the restaurant’s menu and fused a bit of Eastern European influence into the traditional Russian dishes his father had already been serving.

Thanks to everyone for sending word that Lark Creek has closed in downtown Walnut Creek. Although the sign said, “closed for scheduled maintenance”, and a peek inside showed they were taking inventory, alas, they were closed for good. Yankee Pier in Lafayette owned by the same group, remains open. I wonder if all the new restaurants moving into downtown affected business?
From their website:
Dear guests,
Thank you for your patronage over the years! We have decided to close our doors effective Friday, July 21. It has been our pleasure to serve and be a part of the Walnut Creek community. We truly appreciate your support.

A new boba cafe called Cool Tea Bar, with locations in San Francisco and San Jose has opened on Hartz Ave. in Danville. Check out their website here. As you can see in the photo below, tea is brewed fresh daily.

Capital One Cafe opened recently in downtown Walnut Creek where GAP used to be, next to the apple store and I dropped by to see how it compares to their San Francisco location. With a Peet’s cafe located inside (50% off drinks for Capital One card/account holders) and plenty of seating this is a great spot to socialize and get stuff done! The lighting is great, they have meeting rooms for non-profits as well as little semi-private rooms called nooks that are available to individuals. Check with an employee first before using a nook though. They even have a water-filling station available. With the ATMs you can pay your credit card there as well learn about financial services they offer. And don’t forget to walk out the back to check out the koi pond with gigantic koi fish, it’s amazing!
More photos of the inside after the jump…
