The mattress store Mattress Discounters recently rebranded their downtown Walnut Creek location and is now a Sleep Train mattress center. The owners remain the same. There is also a Sleep Train on S. Main St. a few blocks away.

Thanks to a reader for pointing out in a comment that GAP is relocating to Broadway Plaza, across the street from their current location next to the Apple store in Walnut Creek. It looks like they’re possibly planning for an early 2016 opening.
Apple Store, Walnut Creek
Over the weekend I was walking in downtown Walnut Creek when I noticed a protest in front of the Apple store. According to the sign this looks like a labor dispute protest about how Apple is not requiring a construction company to pay stand wages and benefits “on all projects all the time”. My seven year old son was mesmerized by the grim reaper below. He literally was frozen staring at it until I motioned him inside to play some app games on an iPad.
Danville Hotel Town Center
The stationery store Papyrus will be moving a few blocks down on Hartz Ave. in downtown Danville to the newly developed Danville Hotel Town Center this fall. They will be the first store to open at this development with an eyeglass store, jeweler, and fashion boutique expected to open in November followed by several restaurants opening early 2016. Stay tuned.

New development is happening at the old Peppermill restaurant on Concord Ave. across from the Buchanan Field Golf Course in Concord. Signs on the fence indicate that Jimmy John’s, Habit Burger Grill and Anytime Fitness will be coming here. Check out Claycord to see the demolition photos.
Spotted at Urban Outfitters in downtown Walnut Creek. When I first saw this I thought it wasn’t finished but when I dropped another day I realized this IS the window display. Doesn’t get more minimalist than this!
Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
Thanks to a reader for pointing out that according to the latest Macerich (Broadway Plaza owner) earnings report, the fashion store Vince Camuto is coming to Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek and is scheduled to open this November. Check out their website here.
1665 Willow Pass Rd, Concord
Last October we learned that the Japanese/Korean-style Bonjour Bakery & Cafe would be opening in the Park & Shop in Concord and while they eventually opened for a few days they closed gain to better prepare, not reopening until this month. The inside is spacious and looks quite nice and the baked goods are delicious. They are baked in the back and taste very fresh. Check out their website here. Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
Earlier this week we learned that Lush Cosmetics is coming to Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek and now, thanks to a reader for pointing out that another skin care and cosmetics shop, Kiehl’s, is coming to Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek according to permit information submit to the city of Walnut Creek.
