The signage for Amphora Lafayette Olive Oil Works, located next to The Cooperage is great. I’ve been using their extra virgin olive oil and balsamic vinegar for salad dressing and everyone in my family agrees it is SO delicious.

Orinda Theatre Square
Last August we learned that Michale Friedes Design moved from their Orinda Theatre Square location and now a new educational program for girls has opened in this spot. Called the Intuitive Writing Project, An Educational Boutique for Girls, it teaches leadership skills to high school girls through writing workshops. There is also a tween program for girls aged 11 to 13.
From their website:
The Intuitive Writing Project facilitates curriculum-based empowerment programs for teenage girls. We teach leadership from the inside out, creating a safe space for girls to tell their story, speak their truth, and realize the value of their own intuitive voice. Through the experience of writing, sharing, and connecting with their peers, girls develop their confidence and discover their strengths.

I spotted this across the street and thought that was an awfully small place for a HOTEL until I looked closer and realized it’s a DOG hotel. 🙂 They opened last October across from the Lafayette Animal Hospital and in addition to day care and boarding also offer training and adoptions. Check out their website here. Check out their available dogs for adoption here.

One person working there mentioned that they’d like to relocate so check out their website here for updates. Could the parking meter changes made last year in downtown Walnut Creek be affecting local businesses?

Last July we learned that Inge’s Footwear would be relocating within downtown Walnut Creek near Kaiser Permanente but it turns out that the owner also owns Mephisto a few blocks away next to Ike’s and will be consolidating their footwear there sometime in February. Check out their website here.
Park Plaza, Lafayette
The new Park Plaza development in downtown Lafayette is turning into a veritable mini Ferry Building with news from Diablo Dish that a new shop called “The Store” will be opening featuring, “artisanal, prepared foods to go… run by a collaboration of folks from San Francisco’s Ferry Building food complex.”. This is in addition to the gluten-free bakery Mariposa opening next door which also has a location at the Ferry Building.
Although the photo above looks like two separate stores if you look inside you’ll see it’s open inside so I wonder if it will take up both spots. Stay tuned…
Willows Shopping Center
A new through-way connector has opened at the Willows Shopping Center in Concord connecting the back and front parking lots making it much easier to drive and walk around. See the before shot here.
Broadway Plaza, Walnut Creek
Check out the latest progress on Macy’s in Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek. Compare to the reddish tiles on the old Macy’s. Which style and coloring do you like more? Note that the Believe sign is actually hiding glass paneling which is going to thankfully allow plenty of natural light inside.
