Back in July we learned about a new indoor cycling gym called Cycle Scape Fitness coming to downtown Walnut Creek and according to the owner they are planning for a September 27th opening by kicking off a, “community event so that everyone interested can review the facility, speak to the trainers, see and participate in a class and share their views.” Check out their website here.
From their Facebook page:

1500 Mt. Diablo Blvd, Walnut Creek
The Contra Costa Times reports that the preppy clothing store Vineyard Vines will coming to the 1500 Mt. Diablo project at the corner of Mt. Diablo Blvd. and N. Main St. in downtown Walnut Creek. Stay tuned for the restaurants/cafes set to come to the other half of this development…
From their Facebook page:
vineyard vines® was started by Shep and Ian Murray in 1998. They quit their corporate jobs in New York to start a clothing company centered around the good life as they remember it, spending their summers in Martha’s Vineyard. With no money and little experience, they set out to make ties that represent the finer places and things life has to offer. Vineyard Vines now offers much more than ties- a full line of Men’s, Women’s, and Youth apparel.

Check out the latest progress on the Broadway Plaza redevelopment in downtown Walnut Creek. In these photos you can see Macy’s wrapped in black at the far end with the new multi-level parking structure at left. Check out all that dirt as the demolition of the existing buildings has been completed. In the photo below you can also see the open section of the Plaza at right.

In March we learned that Beal Bank was looking to open a branch in the Mercer Apartment complex in downtown Walnut Creek and that’s definitely happening as you can see by the signage in the above photo. A few blocks away BBVA Compass Bank is close to opening a larger branch at the corner of Mt. Diablo Blvd. and S. California Blvd.
Corner of Mt. Diablo Blvd. & S. California Blvd, Walnut Creek
Back in May we learned that a bank would be opening in the old Marie Callender’s location in downtown Walnut Creek next to Genova Deli and the signage for BBVA Compass bank is now up. Word was that a cafe may open in part of this space and if you look at the far left in the above photo there is actually a small separate space that looks like could possibly be a spot for a cafe. Stay tuned…

Last month I noted that construction had begun in downtown Walnut Creek on the the new Uniqlo store and construction is proceeding apace as signs surround the store announcing an October 24th opening.
Interestingly, it looks like they reused the San Francisco store sign template:
FROM TOKYO TO SAN FRANCISCO

This week we learned that ULTA Beauty would be opening a new store in the Willows Shopping Center in Concord this fall and there is plenty of other construction going on as Aaron Brothers Art & Framing plans on expanding next to their current location according to an employee I spoke with recently.
