The S. A. Elite rebranding to Sports Authority in downtown Walnut Creek in Plaza Escuela is almost complete with the official grand opening on April 5th. I stopped by recently and there is a lot more variety.

As noted last December, the children’s clothing store Gymboree has reopened in Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek across from Starbucks. The original location across the street (and all stores on that side) are now closed due to the redevelopment taking place over the next couple of years.

Last March I noted that Mountain Mike’s Pizza closed on Mt. Diablo Blvd. in downtown Lafayette and Walgreens is planning on turning the Mountain Mike’s/Citibank building into a new store. According to the city they have obtained design review approval for exterior modifications to the building and are waiting for “construction drawings for the tenant improvement” so we’ll have to wait and see whether they follow through on this.

The pop-up women’s boutique Leslie Evers is closing in La Fiesta Square in downtown Lafayette. It opened last May and true to it’s pop-up start is now popping out to make room for a Douglah Design retail store coming this summer.
You can still shop at a Leslie Evers boutique at their Rockridge location. Check out their website here.

A new outdoor living showroom CastleLite Outdoor is opening soon where Ironhorse Furnishings used to be on Hartz Ave. in downtown Danville. Check out their website here.
The women’s fashion clothing store Madewell, owned by J.Crew but based on an American denim label founded in 1937 , will be opening a new location in Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek when the new section opens up in the next couple of years according to a reliable source.
From the J.Crew website:
In 2006, we introduced Madewell, a modern-day interpretation of an American denim label founded in 1937. Madewell continues to bring the same original integrity to everything it makes today, including a wide range of effortlessly cool pieces to pair with denim. Step inside any Madewell store across the country and you’ll notice a friendly general-store vibe and antique décor that naturally reflect the authenticity and timelessness of the clothing. In addition to Madewell’s brick-and-mortar stores, madewell.com (launched in 2010) is a strong sales driver. Madewell has also been making a further play in the digital space with a robust social media presence.
