The women’s fashion clothing store Madewell, owned by J.Crew but based on an American denim label founded in 1937 , will be opening a new location in Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek when the new section opens up in the next couple of years according to a reliable source.
From the J.Crew website:
In 2006, we introduced Madewell, a modern-day interpretation of an American denim label founded in 1937. Madewell continues to bring the same original integrity to everything it makes today, including a wide range of effortlessly cool pieces to pair with denim. Step inside any Madewell store across the country and you’ll notice a friendly general-store vibe and antique décor that naturally reflect the authenticity and timelessness of the clothing. In addition to Madewell’s brick-and-mortar stores, madewell.com (launched in 2010) is a strong sales driver. Madewell has also been making a further play in the digital space with a robust social media presence.

Last month I noted that a gift shop called ECHO Grove would be opening in Orinda Theatre Square in downtown Orinda and the signage is now up along with a note, “Coming in April, 2014”. Check out their website here.

Last I month I noted that the women’s boutique Lanvie would be relocating to the Clock Tower in downtown Lafayette and they are now open. They are right next to Francesca’s Fashion.
The writing was on the wall for a long time and now the backside of Broadway Plaza is closed. It was pretty cool strolling back there with empty stores but now that’s it’s closed I guess we’ll have to wait until 2017 before this section reopens. Check out the Boradway Plaza Redevelopment FAQ here.

Last month I noted that the spa Metamorphosis had closed in the Mercer apartment complex in downtown Walnut Creek and now Texas based Beal Bank is planning to open a branch here pending approval by the Walnut Creek Design Commission.
From Wikipedia:
Both banks are members of and are insured by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). The banks offer deposit products to the public including CDs, money market accounts, statement savings accounts, and IRA CD accounts that are insured by the FDIC. The banks are considered wholesale banks because they do not offer consumer loans or checking accounts. Both banks purchase pools of non-agency residential first liens and commercial real estate-secured loans, and also fund commercial loans and participations in loans, through affiliates.
Back in February of last year I noted that the Davidson & Licht jewelry store would be relocating from their Broadway Plaza location to downtown Walnut Creek on N. Main St. where they had their Watch Shoppe and it is now open, albeit with exterior finishes taking place.
Back last September I noted that The Candy Counter would be opening in downtown Walnut Creek and they are now open on N. Main St. across from CREAM. As you can see from the photo below, the baskets on the floor are filled with various taffy flavors which reminds me of the candy stores in old town Sacramento. More taffy baskets line the wall. In addition to candy they offer gift baskets, cards and even handbags (made from candy wrappers). Downtown Lafayette and Danville have candy stores so it’s great to see one open in downtown Walnut Creek to satisfy your sweet tooth.
