Thanks to a reader for sending word that Everything But Water, which opened almost four years ago in downtown Walnut Creek, is no longer listed on the Broadway Plaza directory. It’s not listed on the company store locator either, so considering it’s empty inside, it looks like this is permanently closed. Considering how many stores haven’t opened yet and are even boarded up, it’s difficult to determine whether a store is actually closed these days.

Only a couple of weeks ago the Apple store at Broadway Plaza in downtown Walnut Creek was boarded up with few people to be seen. As I checked out the area this week, I was amazed by the huge lines on both sides of the Apple store with temperature checks being done and mandatory mask wearing while in line. I guess people really love their Apple gear!
Plaza Escuela, Walnut Creek
Last October we learned that Forever 21 was expected to close at Plaza Escuela in downtown Walnut Creek, and that time is now, with 60% – 80% off the entire store. When I dropped by yesterday, there was quite a line to get in. Not as long as the line to get into Apple, but it did wrap around the corner.

Broadway Pointe, Walnut Creek
The one-two punch of the Covid-19 pandemic with recent looting in downtown Walnut Creek meant lots of closed and boarded up stores over the weekend but there are signs of retail shopping slowly opening up. Out of curiosity I checked out Williams-Sonoma which was open. A warning out front asking people to wear a mask and not to come in with a cough or fever was accompanied with touchless shopping signs inside the store. A few other people were inside as well, but frankly, it’s going to take a while to get used to shopping.
Strolling through Downtown Walnut Creek I couldn’t help but notice mannequins at Labels consignment boutique wearing fashionable face masks. A sign of the times.
